Trivia question- How many different denominations of coins has the US Mint
produced, at one time or another, since its official opening in 1793? "Denomination" means the face value of the coin (that is, a penny's denomination is 1 cent, a nickel's denomination is 5 cents, and so on). Note that this only includes coins produced for use inside the US and does not include such exotic pieces as the one pound and four pound gold coins that the Mint produced in 1945-46 to pay for Saudi Arabian oil.

So how many different denominations of coins do you think the US Mint has made since 1793?

No $2.00 coins, though. The rest you mentioned have been used as denominations. There are a few more.

In the meantime, here's one denomination that you'll never see mentioned:

4-pound (as in "pound sterling") gold coin made by the US Mint to pay for Saudi Arabian oil, 1945-46. Sometimes called the "Aramco" 4 pounds

5. No official mill coins, I'm afraid
But various states, like Utah and Louisiana, did issue mill tokens for use in paying sales and luxury taxes.

cent(large and small), two-cent (first coin with "in god we trust"), 3-cent (silver), nickel five-cent, half-dime, twenty-cent, quarter dollars, half dollars, silver dollars (including trade dollars), gold dollars, quarter eagles ($2.50 gold pieces), three-dollar gold, half eagles ($5.00 gold pieces), eagles ($10 gold pieces) and double eagles ($20 gold pieces).

Does this include commeratives? if so add the $50 panama-pacific.

on edit: opps, forgot the 1/2-cent.

6. Since the $50 Panama-Pacific gold coin was made by the Mint

as legal tender, it is acceptable to include as a denomination (and at more than 2 1/2 ounces total weight, it was both the highest denomination and the heaviest coin the Mint ever produced). Since the half dime and the nickel 5c piece both had a face value of 5 cents, they represent the same denomination. There are some more denominations tucked away in that Red Book.

8. The $4 Stella-- now that's a coin I wish I could afford.
I'd have to commandeer the baby's college fund just to make the down payment on one of those!
