2. He can't do much about the skin whitening disease.
But godalmighty, talk about the dangers of excessive plastic surgery.

Joan Rivers is another poster person for overdosing on plastic surgery.

5. I still say that skin whitening disease is what he has done to himself
Edited on Fri Nov-21-03 09:02 AM by LynneSin
Plus he's got more foundation on his skin than Jack Nickleson did when he played the Joker in Batman.

But in a strange way I feel sorry for Michael Jackson. I've read where he was abused as a child and then forced into the limelight at a young age with his singing career. From what I gather this poor guy has never had a childhood which is probably why he's so attached to young kids - so he can have the childhood that he's never had when he was 10 years old. No wonder MJ insists he's innocent - he really does think all he's doing is having the childhood that was taken away from him when he was a kid.

8. he didn't cause his own vitiligo
He didn't cause the disease. It happens, and they don't seem to know much of what to do about it. White people get it too, although not so often. It happened to my friend's dad. They don't know the cause, and there just wasn't anything to do about it except wring their hands. And, if you are so inclined, you can try to cover the disease with make-up -- but it takes one HELL of a lot of make-up to even out the skin tones. If you had ever seen a victim's skin close-up, you would realize why Jackson is so heavily into the Max Factor Pancake No. 5 and the masks. Part of your skin becomes very white, and part of it becomes a cocoa brown, and on one friend I even saw some black freckles thrown in the mix. Pancake make-up is your only option. That or the veil!

Regardless of what else happens to you as a child, skin disease on the face completely destroys your soul and your self esteem. You would do anything to look "normal," and sometimes you develop a very distorted idea of what "normal" looks like. The multiple plastic surgeries were a mistake, but it is easy to see how you get started on that path, and you keep thinking the next surgery will be the one that makes a difference. The eating disorders and the anorexia...another very deceptive path...because you are told if you eat a certain way, it will "cure" your skin (a total lie which still angers me to think of it), if you do yoga or aerobic exercise and change your breathing, it will cure you (more lies)...I didn't have vitiligo, but having a skin disease as a baby and small child and even up until the age of 13, I think I have a little taste of what Jackson must have experienced.

I came damn close to losing myself in eating disorders, and when investigating cosmetic procedures, I still have to be damn careful to keep from getting unrealistic ideas.

How much more difficult would it be to get a grip on reality if I had an infinite supply of cash and people licking my boots and agreeing with any nonsense I wanted to hear?

If Jackson is guilty, damn him for using his power and money to do this to a child. If he is being extorted because he has a money and he's weird, hence an easy victim, damn those who would use children to attack someone with a disease.

It still hurts when I see people being mocked for wearing heavy make-up. Trust me, there is always a reason for heavy make-up. People would make just as much fun as if he went "bare" with skin disease. Plus he wouldn't be able to be in the public eye or to promote himself at all...we live in a visual society and people don't want to look at that.

9. I agree with what you said about the makeup.
I have seen black people up close that has this disease. It is frightening to look at them. I feel so sorry for them.

10. So I have a question about this disease
Couldn't Michael just as easily have used darker foundation so that he could well, look his normal color???

13. Yes, he could have done that, but
he and his doctor say he chose to go all white instead by using a drug. Going all white was a permanent solution. Makeup to cover the white patches would have had to be done frequently. If he had it on his face, sweating during perfomances may have made him decide to do it that way. Of course, I don't know if he really has vitiligo, but I guess there is no reason to doubt it.

16. there is no permanent solution
He clearly didn't have his skin successfully "bleached," as he must still wear a very heavy pancake foundation. I can see it in the photographs.

If vitiligo could be swept away with a drug that turned the skin white, why wouldn't this drug have been given to my friend's dad? He was white to begin with, and he had the best of medical insurance -- cost wouldn't have been an issue for him either.

I believe Jackson is still perfectly blotchy underneath all the make-up and the masks, and I don't blame him or his doctor for not wanting to admit to the fact. We live in a visual society that is very, very cruel.

28. Okay, but, um, that's more than just a heavy makeup issue there...
Even setting aside the cadaverous cheeks, burnt-out cinder eyes, strange, limp hair (a wigm yes? a bad one) and crumbling nose: if one were going to choose a color of heavy makeup to apply for whatever reason, there are conceivably more natural-looking shades than what he's wearing, which would appear to be that popular Max Factor color, "Acid-washed Asphalt."

Also, that lipstick shade just doesn't go at all; he really should've stayed with more of a plum color, that scarlet just doesn't suit him.

11. Vitiligo doesn't cause all your skin to turn white,
just patches. If he did have vitiligo, he has bleached the rest of his skin to match.

He was a beautiful child. I'm sorry he never got the chance to actually BE a child. When they were describing his "secret" room off his bedroom, the first thing I thought was that maybe this room wasn't for his child "friends" but for himself. Wouldn't that be sad? The way they described the room, it was set up for a small child of maybe 2 or 3, and not for the 12-year-olds who have accused him. Peter Pan sheets, stuffed animals? Those are not things pre-adolescent boys find interesting.

He is one weird person and I hope he did not molest any kids, but if he did, he deserves his punishment. Even so he is one person I feel sorry for, even if he is guilty. Because he obviously is arrested somewhere in his development.

Money cannot buy you everything - he's a good example of that.

14. Vitiligo most commonly causes
patches of skin to turn white, but in extreme cases pretty much the entire body is pure white. It's important to realize that vitiligo is an auto-immune disease.

It's also associated with alopecia areata, another auto-immune disease, which causes hair loss. A kind of diffuse vitiligo often occurs with alopecia areata -- there's a characteristic pale, puffy look that goes along with it.

Both of my sons have alopecia areata in its most extreme form, meaning they have no body hair whatsoever, no eyebrows, eyelashes, head, facial, or body hair. They also don't respond properly to sunlight, meaning generally they don't tan, burn, or freckle. Before the onset of alopecia for both of them, they tanned quite nicely in the sunshine.

12. No, almost 6 foot. I worked on a tour of his and had to hold his hand
for a cue where he disappeared off stage through a floor trap; I had to lead him through the maze under the stage to his next location with a flashlight. Very tall, never said a word. We only had a few seconds to make the cue.
