Besides, he can just avoid her classes n the future, as long as he can get through this one.
You're only young once. Setting pencils on fire in science class is all part of the experience.

I did have to fake the stern parent thing when I discussed this with his teacher though! The way she talked about it, you would think he bombed the WTC.

14. setting stuff on fire is a big part of science |
|
Now I'm no scientist myself, but I do remember taking a sort of "How Things Work" physics course to fulfill some requirement in college...and within the first couple of weeks, the demonstrations included microwaving various non-food items, launching a 2-liter bottle about 40 feet in the air out in the parking lot with warming, expanding gas and a cork, and my personal favorite, applying a lit match to a balloon filled with hydrogen (ka-BOOM!).
Science is fun! Sounds like your kid has an inquisitive, scientific mind....

I used to be a pencil hound. I'd beg people for a new pencil if they had one. I don't know why it is but I used more eraser than lead. I have had to resort to the clickable pencils where you can buy three times more erasers than leads if you keep taking them off the shelf in the right proportion. Problem solved except getting the itty bitty bit of eraser out of the top of the thing. Luckily, I know a trick with a paper clip for that.
Or could he just be trying to do a math problem like this hideous math problem that has given me a headache for two days in a row now. It's a word problem that looks like this:
<snip> If you divide a function P(X) by (x-8) with a result Q(x)+6, what does P(8) equal? <snip>
I am so tempted to write, "Fuck if I know." on the paper. I haven't a clue what this question is trying to ask me to do.

would be six. Thanks for setting the record straight on that one. It's been on my mind for too long now. Two days with one equation is entirely too long. I can't wait until next Thursday. Guess what happens then? Last day of this semester until early January. I'll be here on DU through the holidays to post and read until my heart is content.
Yippeee. Knowing my track record with excitement and how I seem to handle it, I'll probably get a nosebleed on the way home that day. I should wear a Sid Vicious shirt that day. I used to bleed on my Sid shirts for comfort. Don't wanna mess up any of my "respectable" shirts. LOL  I'm in that sort of mood tonight.
