Help! I just spilled a can of salmon over my couch and carpet! |
|
I cleaned it up with soap and water but it still reeks horribly. I have no carpet cleaner or odor removers in the house. Do you know of any homemade ways to remove smells from furniture and carpet?
Thank you.

4. The other ideas might work.. |
|
... but if they don't - go to a pet store and get a bottle of that enzymatic stuff that is used to kill cat piss odor.
It works great. Any oxidizer would work too (like diluted bleach), but you run the risk of discoloring your furniture/carpet, so that's probably not a good plan.

You'll probably need slipcovers when they are done.

9. Make a thick paste of baking soda & water & spread on area & let dry |
|

the paste will draw the problem out & just brush & vacuum away. Not recommended for suede or satin type material-test a spot first.
edit for typo

10. As soon as you can obtain it |
|
get some Odo-ban. That stuff takes out the smell of skunk. No kidding.
Try a blotting with hydrogen peroxide after you've done the baking soda scrub. It'll foam like mad, but the combo's pretty effective.

...how did you manage to spill a can of salmon on your couch?
I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explanation, but for the life of me, I can't think of one.
Must be pregnancy hormones.

I was carrying it to the living room and just as I sat down my roommate got up and we collided. Next thing I know there's salmon and salmon water all over my furniture.

13. Get a tray. Use plates. Drain the cans before preparing your meal. |
|
Put the drained fish on a plate. Oh yea, and don't take cans of Salmon into the room with the couch.
