1. Will Farell?
He's hilarious, but Ignatius was a philosopher...hmm.

Brilliant novel. Shouldn't have been made into a movie in my opinion.

8. Will Ferrell?!?!?!?!?!??!?
Ignatius is fat, flatulent, and selectively erudite, as well as a neurotic lapsed Catholic. His attraction and hilarity lay in his rather repellent nature.

Bad choice. <SIGH> Guess the movie's gonna suck. Pity.

2. I'm going to have to give that book another try.
I tried reading it over ten years ago and I couldn't get past the "No, your the communis'!" part. I still own a copy but I'll need some encouragement to pick it up again.

6. Great news! And a great cast!
Olympia Dukakis is perfect for the role! As is Drew. Not so sure about Ferrel in the role, but then, can't think of who might be better at it, either.

Steve Martin could do it well.

Bill Murray would be good.

Can't wait for it! Excellent book, and anyone who pans the book just didn't get it.

7. I think Wayne Knight would be perfect for Ignatius...
Edited on Fri Nov-21-03 01:08 PM by Richardo
but nobody asked me.

Will Farrell is funny, but if they just put a fat suit on him, I'm afraid he'll JUST do the gross out factor stuff, and not get to the "world view" stuff.

14. Wayne Knight - not familiar with him
Farell is to much the funny guy, I think. But then again, I really thought Keaton would suck big time as Batman, and he was fricking perfect for the role.

So who's to know? But I do approach the movie with some fear...

16. Ah, yes - just looked him up on IMDB
And was scrolling through credits saying, "Didn't see that movie...didn't see that movie...didn't see that movie..." until I hit Newman!

Yes, he would have been good for it!

I am interested to see what Will will (will-will!) do with the role though. You never know...

17. The Will Ferrell choice sounds oddly promising
He does some very funny characters that go off on the oddest riffs about things (I'm thinking Lipton and Caray) and are completely oblivious to the reactions of others. My only worry is the physical side.

19. John Waters was tempted to make a film of this
Edited on Fri Nov-21-03 01:44 PM by thebigidea
decided not to, was worried he'd be crucified by fans of the book. I'm guessing the same thing will happen here.

Get your crosses, ready!

Why not start a rumor that the director is Joel Schumacher?

He'd go with that terrible casting decision.

21. yeah, me too! I wonder what flick he's working on now...
Cecil B. Demented had tons of flaws, but what an injoke giggle for filmmakers or drive-in type fans. Can't get over the set designer with DAVID LYNCH tattooed across his knuckles.

22. Big Mistake......
Jeffrey Tambor (sp?) should play Ignatius. I just can't imagine Ferrell in the lead role.

Even Jason Alexander would make a better Ignatius than Ferrell.

Hollywood's gonna f*ck this one up too.

Oh well.

23. Soderberg's heading this one up, so I'm hopeful
I think Ferrell has great potential, so I'm keeping an open mind. This is one of my VERY favorite books, and I've long thought Phillip Seymour Hoffman was the ONLY actor who could play Ignatius. I'm willing to wait and see, though.
