And that is actually one of the clearest animations showing ho you roll a kayak back up. Sometimes the simplest things are sooooo useful.

5. I wish I could watch the roll |
|
Neither of my browsers is displaying animated gifs correctly.
But if Tiddlywinks was here, she'd love it. Maybe she'll see this thread. She's say keep it.

That'll give you a chance to get your stuff sorted out--and tiddlywinks a chance to see the thread.

7. I should have mentioned she loves kayaking |
|
Although the roll still gives her trouble. She almost took a roll class last year, but her graduate studies ate up every available hour of her life.
Someone posted a kayak video here not too long ago, and she was floored when she saw it. She was so THERE. The poor dear hasn't been out in ages. I should help her get back out there.

9. How would you go about posting a video here? |
|
Or even linking to one-is there a video version of photobucket?
Was that one of the videos I linked to? Helmet cam going down a cold river in Minnesota perhaps?
And yes, the roll took me a few years to get down. Te one in the GIF is the one I do. It's called the sweep roll--if she stay patient and finishes that sweep, she WILL come up. And it is so much more fuun paddling when you're not constantly worried about flipping over. Then you can get out there and get aggressive! :D

10. Someone posted a link to it |
|
It mentions the Kettle River right at the start and goes into the Blueberry Slide. About eight minutes long. I have it on my hard drive, I could probably upload it temporarily if you'd like to download it.
Her last trip was a weekend class in Nantahala (I got the cool t-shirt). It wore her out. She lights up like an excited little girl every time she talks about it. It's just like me and caving (which she begs me not to do).

I linked to that off of a friend's website--the Kettle's my favorite river.
The Nantahala you say--I'm jealous. I have a friend who used to teach there. He's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDD!
Plrease don't mention caving to me again--I already have more hobbies than I can properly manage and don't need you planting anymore seeds! ;)
Jut the other day I got the urge to start looking into hot-air ballooning........ B-)

12. Caving can be magical, and it can be horrible |
|
It all depends on the cave. I'm very fortunate to live in one of the most-cave-rich areas in the world. I don't know anything about Minnesota caves (if there are any), so you're probably safe. Unless those ten-thousand lakes are sitting on top of limestone, there are no caves there. (I lived in Minneapolis/St. Paul as a youngin, but haven't seen the place in 33 years.)
But I tell you, in all seriousness, caving is soo much fun, done safely. Seeing places that no one has ever seen before, virgin formations, rare animals and insects, and always wondering what's up around the next bend. It is totally addictive, and it is the most grueling exercise I've ever done. I wish my trip reports were still online. I had some good cave photos online once upon a time.

now I can figure out how to roll. If I ever capsize I'll just picture this little guy and do what it does. In theory. I like animated sig pics.
