Has the internet slowed down for anyone else? |
|
For the past week or so my internet connection has been hanging up for no apparent reason. Sometimes it acts okay, but then sometimes I click on a link or enter an address and it hangs for up to a minute or so. I have two computers and they are both doing the same thing. I did a virus scan and it came back negative. By the way, I have Verizon DSL and have never had this happen before. Is anybody else experiencing problems? This is very frustrating.

4. I had some problems like this a day or two ago. |
|
At first, it appeared to only my e-mail and ISP's website. Later, I had trouble connecting with other websites.
These things are always kind of spooky - you never know what Bill Gates or his federal government are up to.

every day. It's incredible. Nova did a special on this over the summer, and on the people who are charged with stopping the attacks from bringing the Net down. The attackers keep getting more sophisticated, and so must the response. But eventually...

7. Pat. How do I read the table on this site? |
|
I've got a DSL connection to a suburban/small city site. Sometimes it slows down a bit but for the most part it is OK.

8. Well this chart shows latency for the last hour..... |
|
....between the major backbones on the net. It's broken down into 4 categories. Green = Healthy (Less than 80 ms.), Blue = Stable (Less than 120 ms.), Yellow = Severe (Less than 180 ms) Red = Critical (Greater than 180 ms.)
If the squares are all green or blue, the net is stable and not causing slowdowns. If say UUNET is having a problem (showing yellows and reds) and you are on AT&T connecting to a web site on Sprint, you won't have a problem. If you're trying to connect to a site on UUNET and the latency is longer than the time-out setting for your computer, you'll get a time-out message before you can connect to the site. The numbers in the boxes are the average latency for the last hour.
Hope this makes sense! :)

I was viewing one thread, when all of a sudden my browser updated to a thread that I had never clicked on. When I exited out of the thread that had magically appeared it wasn't highlighted as one that I had viewed. What in the world is going on? I'm started to get spooked out about this.

and responsibilities. I'm a procrastinator by nature, but the Internet makes procrastination fun and easy!
