I drive reeeeeeeeeeaaaallly slow on the freeway...
According to Mapquest.

Total Est. Time: 13 minutes Total Est. Distance: 7.84 miles

Keep in mind that all but 1.5 of those miles are freeway... :wtf:

=============================

Another lovely Mapquest story:

My pal and I were driving from Cincinnati to Pontiac, Michigan to go see Underworld (the group, not the movie). The directions we got were full of detours due to some seemingly un-navigable parts of I-75. So off we go...get into Detroit and start with the detours. We sat on Telegraph Parking Lot Road for seriously 2+ hrs in stop and go traffic. Got to the show JUST as Underworld were going on.

So, we go to leave, and notice that right there ---------> was I-75. We obviously didn't have a pc handly so we figure "what the hell, maybe it's ok in this direction" and jump on the freeway.

There was no construction.
There was no traffic.
There was no discernable reason WHATSOEVER why we went 2 hours out of our way.
There was no reason we couldn't have gotten OFF the freeway right there ---------> within spitting distance of the club.

Stupid Mapquest. :grr:

1. I have NEVER seen ONE mapquest map that was correct.
Something wrong in every one. How did they get to be so popular?

Google and Yahoo maps are much better (though I still use paper ones 90% of the time).

13. Well, if you type an address into Google, it gives you a choice of
Google map or a Yahoo map.

Pretty handy.

So why do so many people still use mapquest? I've heard dozens of people bitch about its inaccuracy. Especially inexplicable is the fact that realtor.com (the MLS website) uses them.

5. I just drive in the general direction I need to go
and when I'm a half hour away, I call my friend and have him or her light the house/building next door on fire. Then I look for smoke.

Works like a charm, AND I get to drive really fast right behind the ambulance and cut through traffic the REST OF THE WAY!

10. One acronym
GPS.

The family took a month long camping trip through the pacific northwest this summer. While in Canada, we went one night to see the fireworks display at Buschart Gardens.

For the trip, we had bought one of those small handheld GPS units (which we named Geordi, after the Star Trek character). So we're on the little 2 lane road out to Buschart Gardens, following the lines of cars heading to the same place. Suddenly, Geordi tells us to take a left on a tiny little lane. Literally 5 seconds earlier we had passed a sign directing us emphatically forward.

We'd had good luck following Geordi's directions, so it was a no-brainer to make that left. It took us on a wonderful shortcut that probably saved us about 10 minutes of travel time. And when we left that evening, the shortcut actually put us ahead of the crowd following the marked road.

Screw you, internet directions!

16. I hate mapquest
I needed directions to a ballfield (my son was playing baseball in a tournament) so I went on mapquest.

The map it gave me pointed to someone's damn farm 6 miles north west of where the actual ballfields were.

18. that is because almost all of SoCal is paved and on a grid!
:silly:

Just kidding...

I think it would work for SoCal, does not work so well here in Minnesota, where there are still a lot of wide open spaces.
