Santa Display Drawing Attention (okla.Santa dead at a Crime Scene)w/poll

OKLAHOMA CITY -- This is the time of year when Oklahomans show their holiday spirit and put up holiday decorations.

However, one display in the metro has people talking.
It sits in front of the Dent Depot near May Avenue and 71st Street. The display features Santa Claus, reindeer, a sleigh and crime scene tape.

Santa is face-down with an arrow in his back.
And, last year, Mike Denison said he had Santa hanging from Dent Depot's sign out front.
"It might be a little morbid for some people, but if you look at the humor of it, it's kind of funny," he said.
Even the reindeer are in on this year's "crime." The sleigh got hit as well.

"I thought it was funny. We pulled in and we got a kick out of it. We don't celebrate Santa, so it doesn't bother us that much," said Kirsten Martin.
Another person who saw the display said that such a scene might have been better suited for another holiday.
"I would think that it would be more toward Halloween. That's a couple months back," said Gina Lawson. "(We) need to focus on Christmas.">>>>snip

1. I don't find it funny but it is within their rights to do it.

had to go after Santa too? Those evil libruls!

:sarcasm:

I thought it was kinda funny myself. One of the neighbors put up a display last year that looked like someone on snow skis had crashed into his house!

4. I find it interesting that it is in Oklahoma
I have Choctaw friends living on the reservation there who have told me horror stories of forced conversion to Christianity and the suppression of their language and culture by missionaries. I think those friends of mine, who have gone back to the Old Ways, would laugh at the display and take it sort of like poetic justice---remember, there's an arrow in Santa's back.

6. IMHO, it's really not funny
except maybe to people who have a passive-aggressive attitude towards teasing/traumatizing children.

If it were in a totally childfree zone, like inside a frat house or something, that'd be one thing, but out in front of a store, it's mean.
