I was hoping the Ducks would play Penn State.

This don't make sense to me at all. The #5 ranking in the BCS should mean that they should easily have a BCS slot. Gotta be a better way than this to do it.

... finished the season 10-1 ... finished #4 in the AP poll ... finished #4 in the ESPN/USA Today poll ... finished #5 in the BCS rankings ... lost their only game to USC after outplaying them and were stopped 9 yards short of pay dirt and a victory ...
Explain to me how the Golden Bears didn't go to a BCS bowl game.

|
There are 26 bowls now. So 52 teams go to bowls, there are 115 D1 teams

9. No they didn't. Get your facts straight. |
|
FSU is in the BCS because they are champions of their conference, the ACC. Have an issue with that? Talk to Virginia Tech.
Oregon got snubbed by Ohio St. and Notre Dame. Those were the two "at-large" teams. And, simply put, they draw better nationally than ORegon does. And, as I stated before, the BCS is about money, not football.

Due to NOT being in a conference and BEING Notre Dame once they hit 9 wins they are automatically in a BCS bowl. Like it or not that is the way it is. Now about OSU ......uh.... GO BUCKEYES!!!
See my post below. There is no way a team with 4 losses should be allowed into the BCS imho.

You have to use BCS-logic. Which means, chase money and football is secondary.

I have to admit that I was unaware that Oregon had gone 10-1 (totally off my radar) but I was aware that FSU was never that good (started the season at #5 or so -see Tennessee too) and benefit from a sweetheart division in the ACC. The TV networks LOVE St.Bobby and his band of thieves though-BIG ratings.

They never played anyone. The ONE good team they played, smoked them. Their other big win was Fresno St.
I was pulling for them, since I have friends that graduated from Oregon, but the BCS is about money.

the reason I was unaware of them is because they play in the Pac10 so the only eastcoasters who pay attention to them are gamblers.
Sorry did I say something I wasn't supposed to?
Yes they should have played someone east of the Mississippi-like it or not that is how it is....unless you are USC or Texas and are just that good.

15. Well, that's true as well. |
|
:D
No, I just think it's interesting that people assume that because Oregon is 10-1 that they played a really tough schedule. They really didn't. I mean they didn't have to play UCLA this year.
I HATE the BCS. Hate it. But people get too involved with saying that such-and-such got screwed. In a football sense, that might be true, but the BCS is a business, and they want to make money. So, Ohio St. sells more than Oregon. Sucks, but it's true.
Oh, and you are right about the Domers. They are automatically in.

Simply Notre Dame and Ohio State sell more nationally.
Plus, as much as I am on the Ducks bandwagon this year, they really didn't beat anybody really good this year. Their best win was, who, Fresno St.?

I think playing FSU is a joke... I would have much rather seen Penn State play some one with a better record like Oregon then dumb FSU.... Granted Penn State would have smoked Oregon but hey we'll never know..:)

1) Pac-10 was somewhat weak this year. When Arizona State's your best win, that's not exactly making a case for yourself.
2) Ohio State only lost to #2 Texas and #3 Penn State. And they played in a superior conference.
3) Ohio State fans travel better than Oregon fans.

22. Yeah, you're not being ridiculous. |
|
What's ridiculous is to blindly look at records and say every one loss team is better than every 2 loss team. West Virginia only had one loss, but do I think they're better than 3 loss Boston College or Florida? Heck no.
Personally, I detest Ohio State and also wanted to see Oregon in the BCS, but I can definitely understand the decision.
Of course, I also think there should be a playoff, but that ain't gonna happen.

23. Well, the reason we won't have a playoff is because of the conferences. |
|
If all we did was take the top 8 teams, some conferences (coughBIGEASTcough) would miss out, and they'd lose out on the moolah. That means it's never going to fly. So, until they share the revenues equally, there will never be a playoff.

But yeah, it is about the money. College presidents have no interest in the playoff, even though everyone else does.

28. The BCS and the college polls have always had anti PAC 10 bias |
|
Fucking Florida teams could all have 1-11 seasons and at least 2 of them would still be ranked in the Top 25, and one would still make it to the Orange Bowl.
Shit, how many 12-0 or 11-1 seasons did the Huskies have without a shred of respect from those asswipes?
(Yeah I know.... I didn't say recently did I? :evilfrown: )
I'm not a big Ducks fan, but they earned a shot. They couldn't be the champs because they DID lose to USC. But they earned a New Years Day bowl, in my opinion.

I was SO PISSED OFF when I got back from the Giants game last night to hear that the Ducks are the latest Pac-10 team to get fucked by the BCS system. How the Pac-10 gave away the Rose Bowl and get the Holiday Bowl as its No. 2 Bowl is beyond me. On years when the Rose Bowl is the title game, the Pac-10 is screwed. They will never get two teams in the BCS games. This would have been the year if it was possible. Oregon played a great season and came back from losing their starting QB to win 3 games. But they were against Pac-10 teams. I hope the Ducks destroy Ok in the Holiday bowl. There is no way the Pac-10 gets the respect they deserve.
