got my bottle at La Boheme in the UK (they ship anywhere in the world - and it is Legal in the US to imbibe and purchase - just not to sell)
Snog is a 90's goth band that goes well with Absynthe
And the sugar is just that, sugar.

8. Nah - I do mine "La Belle Epoch" style |
|
where you drip ice water on top of a sugarcube, melting the two into the drink.
I have tried the fire thing and it's ok - but I end up getting ash in the drink and that tastes nasty.

10. Well that goes back to the early 1900's... |
|
Before prohibition, Absynthe was as popular as wine. You can find a lot of posters from that era alongside wine posters. The wine industry lobbied congress to get the stuff banned, saying the wormwood drove people crazy (it is, after all, a neurotoxin. But then again, so is alchohol)
The ban stayed, but it is not a controlled substance. Someday, I'm hoping they can overturn the ban so that the stuff doesn't take forever to arrive.

13. Woo, I'll have what she's having! |
|
We have some in the cabinet: Hill's Absinthe. Regular stock at out local Gov't-owned Liquor Store, $88 per 40 oz bottle.
Mrs. Amok is out of town--should I have an Absinthe in her 'absinthe', after I get back from the gym?

14. Your local gov't liquor store |
|
has Absynthe? Wow! But you're in Canada, right? I doubt I'd find it at the local ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control Board) Store here.
I would like to try it. What does Absynthe taste like? Yes, by all means have some!
Note to self: Must watch From Hell again. That bathtub scene is HOT! OMG!!

15. It's very, alcohol-y. |
|
Straight up, it has an almost medicinal flavour. Hence the sugar ritual.
Yes, Canada here. Absinthe is available in BC and Ontario. I'm not sure about other provinces, but I'm sure other Canadian DUers can fill us in.
