A true American hero, facing the machine for freedom

File photo: Brett Bursey of Columbia, S.C., faces reporters Friday July 18, 2003, outside the Federal Courthouse in Columbia, S.C, with his attorney Lewis Pitts. Bursey is charged with refusing to leave a restricted area during a visit by President Bush (news - web sites) last fall. Bursey says the Bush administration tries to 'sanitize' areas of dissent around the president during visits across the country. (AP Photo/Lou Krasky)

2. Have you heard any updates?
A buddy of mine has a copy of the subpoena served on the state Republican chairman requiring him to appear and to bring all his documents regarding contact with the Bush Administration about the SC appearance. Brett also deposed Rove and Ashcroft (what a great clause!), but I haven't heard word one about the results. The last mention of Bursey in The State (our alleged newspaper) indicated that he was testifying as of 11/14, the last to do so for the defense. Since he's already been denied a jury trial (this story just makes you more and more proud of our country, doesn't it?) that should be it, but color me bewildered.

3. My mistake; here it is:
http://www.miami.com/mld/observer/news/local/states/south_carolina/counties/york/7258921.htm
That'll teach me to look for Columbia news in the Columbia paper...

7. hello!!!! Take a look at these lines from that link....
"The officer, Sgt. James Campbell, said on the witness stand Thursday that he didn't know at the time that a person can't be charged with trespassing in South Carolina if they're on public property."

what a fucking moron, not even knowing the laws of his own state!

The trespassing charges were dropped five months later. But by that time, U.S. Attorney Strom Thurmond Jr. had brought the federal charge.

Oh, My, GOD. Take a look at who had to stir this shit up. And yet, oddly enough, he may be doing us a favor. Let's get a ruling on this to move up the federal benches....

4. No, I have not. I thought there must have been something new
as that file photo ran yesterday on the wire, but there was no story attached to it.
I have no idea what is going on now with this. It seems to have dropped out of sight, which is why I posted it here.

5. We'll have to nominate it for the end of year Underreported Story list
If you're curious, I figured out how to search the story successfully. Just google "jacob jordan" (he's the AP reporter on this story) and "brett bursey". You'll get all the news anybody's bothering to print.

Story linked above indicates the judge is going to deliberate for a month. A cynic might suggest that he's holding out for the best deal from the Bushies.

8. Update on subpoenas
My friend says Ashcroft and Rove had their subpoenas quashed. They also tried to bill Brett for their legal costs, but the judge turned them down on that one.

6. Heaven forbid the Chimp-In-Chief should face actual dissent
I mean, someone might ask him an unscripted question, and what if his earphone from Karl breaks? We might have him babbling about "fool me once...won't get fooled again" or something equally asinine. Wouldn't want the leader of the free world looking like an IDIOT, now would we?

I wonder if, in his little pea brain, he believes the American public really loves him? After all, he never sees anyone who isn't sycophantic and toadying; maybe he thinks he's the most adored president in history, soon to be immortalized on Mt. Rushmore along with St. Ronnie the Raygun (gag me).
