Your Recommendation Solicited |
|
There are ten books awaiting me. If you would be so kind--which should I read next.
1. Code Breakers, The Inside Story of Bletchley Park. 2. The Forgotten Storm, The Great Tri-State Tornado of 1925 3. The Great Depression, America 1929 --1941 4. Station X, Decoding the Nazi Secrets. 5. The Circus Fire, A True Story of an American Tragedy 6. Montaillou, The Promised Land of Error. 7. Dictionary of the Khazars, A lexicon novel. 8 Treason by the Book. 9. The Hungry Years, A Narrative History of the Great Depression in America. 10. Eiger Dreams: Ventures Among Men and Mountains
Perhaps, if you don't mind, suggest the next three.

2. The only ones I have read in that group are Codebreakers |
|
and the Hungry years...Codebreakers is really not that much informationally as far as the Bletchly Park story is concerned..there are better books...for instance BODY OF SECRETS covers this better and really gives a more honest account of signals caught and MISSED.
THe Hungry years is a very good read. Gives a balanced account of FDR's triumphs and failings and really hammers home the issue of LABOR contracts etc...it is very apropos to today. It also is WORTH reading because he writes well...keeps you there.

5. who wrote The Circus Fire? |
|
I think I may have read that - was it in Ohio and didn't a little girl remain unidentified until recently? A heartbreaking story.
