Favorite band from the 90s?
Edited on Fri Nov-21-03 11:04 PM by leftist_rebel1569
I gotta say that my favorite band from the nineties, which also qualifies as my favorite band of all time, is Rage Against the Machine. How about you guys? Any particular bands from the 90s that you really liked?

54. Yeah but they hit their stride in the 90s
I used to love going to their shows back in the glory days of Enn Esche and his pink tutu. Sasha was kickass. What a band. This was the "Excessive Force" days (Sex on the flag, yeah!!!)

I stopped liking them for awhile after they pulled the "MDFMK" bullshit, but my pal tells me their latest album is dynamite, so I'm tracking it down.

My two favorite albums of theirs continue to be "Nihil" and "Adios"

GLB suck-diddly-ucked! I saw them open for the Cranberries. THankfully the Cranberries were good enough to wash out the taste of GLB.

6. Hmmm...distinctly 90s?
That's a tough one, since so many of the ones who came to prominence in the 90s actually began in the 80s or earlier.

I don't think the 90s was a particularly great decade for music, but some of the bands I consider "90s bands" who have stood the test of time are:

Nirvana
Jesus Lizard
Underworld (reinvented from 80s band Freur)
Ministry (80s, again, but such a departure from their 80s mold)
Jane's Addiction
Radiohead

41. ahh....nostalgia time
If you're going on pure influence you'd have to say Nirvana. To deny their place in music history would be an unforgivable oversight. They are one of my personal favorites, but some others I love from then are:

Helmet-very influential and terribly underrated band

Soundgarden

Pearl Jam-They got better after Ten IMHO

Weezer-stil awesome now too

RATM-the ONLY Rap-Rock band that mattered

Albert Hill-it's a local band, but they were great

Smashing Pumpkins

Temple of The Dog-I know this isn't really a band so much as a side project/tribute album, but it's still one of the highlights of the decade

Green Day-Yes I realize they're Clash rip-offs but compare them with the (supposedly) punk bands today and they look like geniuses

As a general rule, I like most of 90's grunge and post-grunge Alt-Rock. There were some shitty bands in there too like Bush, Silverchair and Candlebox, :puke: that made a living copying the originality of bands like Nirvana, and Pearl Jam, but leaving them out, it was a good decade for music at least till about '97 or so

Also...

the Posies (anyone remember them?)
Smashing Pumpkins
Belly
Babes in Toyland
Hole
Alice in Chains
Rancid (love their stuff from the 90s more than the recent stuff)
Faith No More
The Afghan Whigs
Dinosaur Jr.
Bikini Kill
the Lemonheads

I could go on and on talking about how much I love music from that decade.

Plus, they got into a whole electronica experimentation before going back to their roots. The nineties were eventful for U2. BTW, did you catch Bono at the Canadian Liberal Leadership Convention? Wow, what a speech. What a man.
