Somone tell me why I still read this old fuckwit's Column...
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 12:59 AM by JonathanChance
I take a look at the editorial section of my local weekly online Wednesday night, to get the pulse of what's going on back home. One of the commentators is a fundie catholic who is very repuke.

She had some doozies today.

Why do I still Read this shit?

http://www.webmediainc.com/54157PT/PeshtigoTimes.taf?function=detail&Layout1_uid2=15535

the first two paragraphs alone make me want to invent a device tat allows people to smack people upside the head with gigantic fickin' clues over the internet.

Hi Folks!

Considering the snow covered landscape and the frigid temperatures of recent days it's a bit hard to believe the official start of winter is still two weeks off. Looks like we're in for a long, hard one. Some official prognosticators are predicting the coldest since we began keeping weather records, and we've already had days that set new record lows for early December.

Where, oh where, is that dreaded Global Warming Trend???

Then there's her take on the whole "war on Christmas" bullshit. Her standard rant about schools using the terms "Winter Vacation" and Easter Break" that she breaks out at least twice a year.

Then Praising my home district's * ass-kisser and now gubenatorial candidate Mark Green for voting for the Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act. Finally rants on seat belt legislation.

I guess reading stuff like this makes me glad that I'm in Stevens Point away from all those fanatics.

1. The Peshtigo Times!
My dad used to get a gift subscription from his brother many years ago. Good source for the happenings of Pembine and Dunbar.

Hey, Jonathan - at least she ended with a couple of yummy recipes.
(Do you really think people read that stuff?)

3. A couple of people at the church I used to go to read the recipies...
They tend not to agree with her on her rants, but they do regularly read the recipies.

Although, Their Other columnist, Old Timer does have somewhat of a progressive streak about him, He's no fan of all the Medicare "reform" and the current state of health care in this country.

8. Yeah - I think people are very forgiving of the "locals"
We've got one here who writes all about her personal life, what she did last week, how the Packers are doing, etc. I think that a while back, the (now retired) editor asked her to write something just to fill the page. Now, nobody has the heart to ask her to stop.

And, there ARE liberals in Marinette County. My dad's two brothers, for example. They're just not vocal about it.

4. Two questions
1. Is this an actual newspaper?

2. Does anyone edit it?

5. Answers.
1. Yes, this is a local weekly from Rural Northeast Wisconsin.

2. Yes, they have an editor, however I'm not sure if that person has even set foot in a university, much less Journalism school. They also have a penchant for using quotes for things that were not actually said.

6. Oh, it's real
So is this one: http://www.ironmountaindailynews.com/opinion.html That's the LTTE page for my hometown's paper. One gem:
Letters to the Editor

Happy holiday ring a bell?

EDITOR:
Well America, we have finally instituted the insult that is paving the road to this country’s and the world’s climactic conclusions as described in the Revelation of the Holy Bible.
It happened faster then the erection of the Berlin Wall that was built over night and separated East and West Germany. In an attempt to please everyone in America and the world we have displeased the very one who will decide everyone’s final and everlasting fate. Read I John 2:23 KJV and other pertinent Bible passages for yourself. Who so ever denieth the son, the same hath not the father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the son hath the father also.
You ask, what in the name or should I say the omission of a name is this guy talking about? Does have a “Happy Holiday Day,” ring a bell or should I say not ring a Salvation Army Bell? Does holiday tree and holiday this and that not trigger something in our brains that doesn’t seem right about what is going on in the commercial and media world? Has our commercial lusts dulled our senses to the point that we don’t really know what is taking place in the land of free speech and the supposed protection of Christian beliefs.
The Holy Bible explains that there will come a day when the living will have to make a choice whether to receive a mark that will identify those who do or do not believe in Jesus Christ. Those that receive the mark will be able to buy and sell. Those who follow Christ will be denied and persecuted. Whether it is a conspiracy or whether it is out of a conscious effort not to offend non-believers there are those that have control on a world wide scale the production, shipping, and distribution of all that we think is necessary for our abundant and lavish lifestyles. Major corporations with their advertising counterparts have taken Christ out of Christmas.
Many have been saying for years and years that we have commercialized Christmas to the point that we are just there for the gifts with no real thought given to the one we should be honoring, worshiping, and giving thanks to on this day and throughout the year.
Black Friday is a saying used to indicate the bottom line the day after Thanksgiving. If the ink on the bottom line is black the retailer may be doing well. If the ink is red, sales are off and its bad news for the whole community. Black Friday can ensure for many retailers a successful or not so successful year. Do not begrudge them for wanting to be successful.
Many people depend on them for their livelihoods and they for the most part enrich the communities where they locate. However, the question that must be answered by each one of us is: what are willing to give up to make the bottom line black? For those of you who are devout Christians; Merry Christmas. For all others; a sincere happy holiday. As always I extend a hand of friendship and witness for my lord and savior Jesus Christ.

18. Dang...I think that guy writes LTTE's as a woman to MY local paper.
They have identical grammatical abilities or should I say grammatical un-abilities (yeah, I did that on purpose, sorry), and identical perspectives. But the guy who writes our editorials, Weldon Payne, is a wonderful Democrat who has an ability to hit the nail right on the head (though he also writes about his grandchildren's birthdays a lot, lol...I think it's cute).

7. Scroll down and read her rant about seatbelts
She is opposed to them. But she wants them on school buses. Do you think that maybe she has been shaken up a time or two?

Sounds like Friday night in Knutzen Hall (UW-Stevens Point dorm with a reputation for partying and the smoking of certain illicit substances.)
