Anybody here ever been to the Great Pyramids in Egypt? |
|
and if so, did you climb to the top? I know your not allowed to, but bribes go along way in that part of the world. I have always wondered what the top looks like.

Yeah, I've been to the Giza Plateau 3 times and the Sakkara pyramids twice. At Giza, I've been in all 3 pyramids - Khufu's (aka the Great Pyramid), Khafre's and Khephren's. I've never climbed them however - never had the time. Yes, you can probably bribe the guards to let you do it, but if you get caught you can, and probably will, be arrested. While I know there are many worse things than spending time in an Egyptian jail, it's still not up there on my list of top 100,000 things to do before I die.

2. My Dad was Born in Alexandria |
|
He has many photos around his house of the Pyramids. He used to go there quite a bit when he was younger. I wish I could go there one of these days. My Dad has not been back since he left in the 50's, so I know a lot has changed since then. But, back then he said they were a lot more strict about letting people even in the Pyramids themselves.

and no, we didn't climb them.
Somehow, at the age of 10, bribing guides wasn't high on my list of priorities...
And now...spending time in an Egyptian jail...no thanks. :scared:

It was an amazing experience.
At the time you walked up a narrow plank (maybe 3 2X4) with a smaller block of wood across the plank sort of as a stair. It was very hard to navigate between the people going up and the people going down.
On my way down, this older man stretches out his arm, blocking my path and says:
"Je ne vous laisserez pas passer avant vous me donnez un baiser" (I won't let you pass until you give me a kiss)
Imagine his surprise when I answer: "Je m'excuse monsieur, mais je suis fatigue et j'aimerai passer, s'il vous plait." (I'm sorry sir, but I'm really tired and would really like to pass please.)
The look of surprise on his face was priceless. Wish I got a picture.
I'll see if I've packed my photos from that trip and post a few if I haven't.

with all the guys walking around with automatic rifles, I wouldn't try anything out of line. Kinda creepy. Especially when they hit on you - kissing noises, pats on butt, 'hellos' while looking you up and down. Not what I want coming from a guy with a gun.
