5. it doesnt matter
the assholes have the majority and they are going to get credit...why didn't the senate filibuster this thing?? Not only will Bush get credit for pumping 400+ billion into medicare but the dems will be labeled as obstructionists...seriously, it LOOKS BAD! I know the Bill was horrible...but the fact is, most people will not understand how a major increase can be bad for recepients...and the gop will play to the fools like they always do.

9. Oh, I agree with you.
I was excited about the possibility of this thing failing, for the sake of not having our seniors stuck with a crappy bill (and the dems getting a spine), but the GOP will not be able to hold their heads high over this one. They've managed to mobilize seniors to vote Dem better than we ever could.

20. A filibuster would have been the WORST thing imagineable.
Would you rather the BFEE take credit for passing this, or get mileage out of a Democratic filibuster on this issue? We need the AARP, like it or not.

Is this whole bill a political manuever to gain AARP votes? You bet it is.

Would a filibuster on this bill have lost us more votes next year? Damn straight.

The passing of this is the proverbial "lesser of two evils". Sometimes, you just gotta take a punch in order to leave yourself open to counter. Sad but true.

13. Who did this?
Wonderful, just wonderful!

Now my husband and I will probably have to work at Wal-mart as greeters when we are eighty years old, just to pay for our prescriptions. If any of us live that long, and if we have a country at all, that is.

His pension is tied up in Putnam, too, one of the mutual funds that the bastards have been stealing from.

Point me in the direction of the revolution, people. I am ready to hit the streets.

16. it gets worse
Just to prepare you: Schroeder said today that Iraq's debt in Germany might be waived. While I think that it's a sensible thing to do, I fear that it will be spun into a diplomatic success.

(Sidenote: Siemens won a $100 Million contract to rebuild part of the Iraqi power infrastructure. This might be a coincidence, especially as Siemens is a very conservative company (gives more money to the conservatives and suspected in all recent party-funding scandals), but it's strange nonetheless.)
