HawkerHurricane's NFL Power Ratings!
Welcome once again to HawkerHurricane’s NFL power rating. I’m late this week because the ship was out to sea, and didn’t have internet access or access to my notes until now…

Now, by popular demand (4 votes to 2), I’m using the new system, giving TWO points for every win, and one point for every win your opponents have...
Last weeks placement in Parens(). Current division leaders are marked with a d next to their rank, wild cards with a w. There may be too many w’s, since a) I’m not going to figure out tiebreakers and b) there’s one too many w in the White House anyway!

Rank Team points record

32(30) Chargers 14 2-8

31(31) Jaguars 14 2-8

30(29) Bears 14 3-7

29(27) Falcons 15 2-8

28(28) Lions 15 3-7

27(25) Jets 17 3-7

26(32) Raiders 19 3-7

25(24) Steelers 19 3-7

24(23) Cardinals 21 3-7

23(26) Browns 22 4-6

22(21) Saints 25 5-5

21(18) Bills 27 4-6

20(16) Ravens 27 5-5d

19(11) Giants 28 4-6

18(22) Texans 28 4-6

17(14) Redskins 28 4-6

16(12) Buccaneers 29 4-6

15(20) 49rs 30 5-5

14(19) Broncos 30 6-4w

13(15) Dolphins 32 6-4w

12(13) Packers 33 5-5

11(9) Vikings 36 6-4d

10(17) Bengals 39 5-5

9(8) Rams 40 7-3w

8(10) Eagles 41 7-3w

7(3) Cowboys 42 7-3d

6(6) Seahawks 43 7-3d

5(4) Titans 49 8-2w

4(5) Panthers 50 8-2d

3(7) Colts 52 8-2d

2(1) Chiefs 54 9-1d

1(2) Patriots 61 8-2d

Ok, I know you’ve got comments. Here’s a little something to mollify those KCC fans…
The Chiefs, 9-1, have beaten ONE team with a winning record: the 6-4 Broncos.
The Patriots, 8-2, have beaten FIVE teams with winning records: the 7-3 Eagles, the 8-2 Titans, the 6-4 Dolphins, the 6-4 Broncos, and the 7-3 Cowboys. They are really racking up the points, and I think that based on strength of schedule, they deserve the top spot.
(For the record, the other 8-2 teams, the Titans and Panthers defeated one team with a winning record and the Colts two.)

I find it interesting that the teams I’ve ranked in the top 9 all have playoff spots…

Although I am wondering how the Ravens can be leading their division at 5-5. Of course, with the Bengals tied with them, and the Browns within one game and the Steelers two, that whole division is a toss up: one team is going to the playoffs, and the other three are looking at early draft picks!

Well, what do you think:

2. As a lifelong Chiefs fan
I have to say, I agree with this system. I think the Patriots are clearly a better team, and I think that the Chiefs have been playing some very weak teams.

Consider what happened to KC last weekend...

They need a defense.

4. I think the Redskins would
jump way up in your rankings if they played their games by Washington rules - the game doesn't end until we have more points than you.*

12. The Rams have staggered last 2 weeks...
I'm thinking that this isn't thier year after all.

I think they are better than thier record (and Seattle), but they aren't really Super Bowl material...

Actually, none of the NFC looks Super Bowlish... But they never do until they get there and beat the AFC. Go figure.

13. And Seattle is leading the division
Not St. Louis

so, the NFC standings should be
1. Philadelphia 7-3
2. St. Louis 7-3
Green Bay 5-5
New Orleands 5-5

25. You've got Seattle as a wild card
When they are leading thier division (on the tiebreaker; they beat St. Louis and have a better record in division at 3-0 to St. Louis 2-2)

26. I made a mistake ok
I know Seattle beat St. Louis. 24-23 right? I remember watching that game like it was yesturday, St. Louis throws the pick, Hasselbeck drives down the field and throws the winning touchdown.

They've got no chance in the playoffs.

Sorry, the Chargers are that bad. Flutie is good, but the coach and staff are going to drag him down like they do everyone else.

8. There should be a "d" next to the Bengals' record.
They have the same overall record as the Ravens and a better record against divisional opponents. They also beat the Ravens.

It would be nice to have Pittsburgh beat Cleveland today, though. Cleveland's only a game back, and the Squealers are two.

28. I'd like to see the Browns win actualy
You're wondering how can I like both when they're in state rivals? I'll explain. I know that the Browns are named after Paul Brown and Paul started the Bengals after Modell(cocksucker) fired him. The Browns are named after Paul and since I'm also a Ohio State fan I am also a somewhat fan of the Browns. I sort of see it as a brotherly rivalry. I cried when the Browns left Cleveland and when they aren't playing my Bengals I support them.

34. Yeah, I know you like both.
I was interested in what you would think of that. I don't hate the Browns like many Bengals fans do, but I used to. Most of my buddies while I was in college were from Cleveland, and they were VERY obnoxious about the Browns (and Indians). I'm pretty much over it now, but it's hard not to root against them, especially when the Browns losing benefits the Bengals.

16. Division leaders according to
the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Of course, they think Bush is a great president, too, so all thier opinions should be taken with a grain of salt.

(They also have a misprint: Cardinals by 8 over the Rams, while the actual Caliente line is the reverse)

33. They're all important.
What I meant was that it doesn't really matter at this point in the season who HH has leading the division, because it'll likely work itself out anyway.

But you're right - I guess we are gettin pretty deep into the season. Time flies.

10. Bucs are rated too highly
With Keyshawn gone, it's gonna hurt alot worse than people think. Jurevicious is just back from a knee injury and McCardell has an ankle sprain.

18. Rating is based on past record
Not current situation. If a team loses a good player, it doesn't show in the rankings until (IF!) they start losing.
