1. anyone decent stays away from that show
Edited on Sun Dec-11-05 11:46 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
it's currently in the longest bad stretch in its history, thanks to tina fey as head writer. too many mtv parodies, bad musical guests, toilet humor and way too much homophobia

--oh yeah, and it's not funny

2. The writing on that program is atrocious.
It should have been taken out behind NBC studios and put out of its misery long ago. It's simply painful to watch now.

3. yet fey is a media darling, so they keep digging in deeper
you can trace the show's decline to her coming onboard in the late 90s

i think the current output is far worse then any of the show's so-called "worst" seasons (85-86 with randy newman and co., 94-95 with garofalo), yet the entertainment media never criticizes the show these days

4. I think it doesn't get criticized because it's become so irrelevant.
With "The Daily Show," SNL has been reduced to focusing entire skits on celebrities. Their topical humor lacks any of the bite it once had.

Remember Eddie Murphy as Jesse Jackson singing a doo-wop song about "Himeytown"? Or Richard Pryor and Chevy Chase doing "word association"? I can't imagine the writers coming up with something that clever now. It's reduced itself to parodying easy targets like celebrities.

5. SNL used to be satire (powerless attacking the powerful)
Now it's kick the cripple humor. I stopped watching since the Gore jokes in 2000.

8. Nobody.
SNL should be allowed to die. It's the Terry Schiavo of television.

9. John Belushi
He'd be just as funny as any of the other stiffs they put on. There are more laughs on The No Spin Zone than SNL...

11. I've heard this for years
"SNL has gone down hill since...blah blah blah". I have watched it since the 70s and ever since the late 70s people have said the same thing. In my opinion they go up and down. Some stuff is funny and some isn't. I remember even when the classic cast was on they had some shitty skits. You just don't see them anymore because they weren't funny. All we see from the old days is the classic bits.

I still get a chuckle out of some stuff here and there.

15. I agree
I've been watching from the very beginning, and they did a lot of crap back then as well. Anyway, how could you not love "Brokeback Goldmine?"

13. I didn't realize it was still on...
...It was good in spots, i.e. 70's and late 80's to early 90's, but I lost interest in it long ago. IF it was still quality, I'd love to see Gore Vidal host it.

14. Katherine Harris
Considering some of the brutal skits they did about her after the '00 election, it would be pretty funny to see her hosting. I wonder how she would get along with most of the cast?!

That would match the general level of humor of "SNL" these days.

19. A plant stand.
Musical Guest: Weird Al Yankovic

It would get more laughs than the current writers or cast does.

SNL = Shoot it NOW, Lorne.

20. The show has become the toilet of bad comedy
Edited on Mon Dec-12-05 10:21 AM by DainBramaged
They should have hired the writers from Mad TV. For DECADES I looked forward to this show. I haven't watched a single one complete in three seasons now. Comedy for the stupid.

Oh and for the nit pickers, read the cast list and other than Hammond, who else could you possibly think is funny? Anyone you'd go see live at at a club?
