WTF? The most random thing just happened to me...
Ok, so, the campus I live on in Boston College is kinda isolated from the main campus; we're called "upper" campus because we're on a hill (brilliant discription eh?). There's always a ton of taxi cabs on weekend nights for the obvious reasons of picking up and dropping off highly intoxicated college students. And usually the cabbies don't know exactly where a specific dorm is, e.g, "Loyola" , "Fitzgerald" are in the same area, but not the same dorm. So usually cabbies will stop and ask passing (non-intoxicated) students where such a hall is.
Last week I had a bunch of them ask me, no big deal.
Then today, as I was walking home to my dorm, a cab pulled up next to me looking like he wanted help. I recognized him as a cabbie I had talked to last weekend. He was kinda cute, not outrageously hot, but deffinately cute. So I ask, "you need help finding a dorm?" And he shakes his head and asks for my number. Being a retard (hey when you don't go on a lot of dates, you don't hear the damn question a lot), I asked why. He said he thought maybe we could have coffee or something. Suspecious, I asked how old he was. He said 24- older than me by 6 years, but acceptable in my mind.
After interrogating him for a few more minutes, I gave him my number.
He seemed sweet, but the whole situation was just a bit f--king weird. I don't get any bad vibes, but I'm curious to see what older women (and men) make of this situation.
Thoughts? Comments?

1. You're probably okay.
You just gave him your number, not your address. If he turns out to be a pest, you can always change your number.

Anyway, it's only coffee, right? No harm done.

21. Dorm phone numbers aren't that easy to change.
Usually the same room will keep a number for years so changing it can be a long process.

Having said that this guy seems harmless to me and I doubt she'll have to change her number.

4. In my estimation, this doesn't sound healthy.
Why is a 24 year old cruising for chicks on a college campus? On the other hand it may be aboveboard. Be careful. Find out more about him and check it out before you meet him for anything but coffee in a VERY public place. Good luck. Be very careful. And bail out if you don't feel comfortable.

15. What was I thinking? But, then, does she want to go out with him?
If he is just cruising for chicks, is he a "one girl is just the same as any other, kind of guy"? Oh, that's attractive.

:D

11. My brother's been driving for Boston Cab for 20-odd years
If you've got the guy's name, I can see if he knows him and where he ranks on the Travis Bickle scale.

19. Travis is DeNiro's character who is the TAXI DRIVER
and Betsy (Cybil Shepherd) is working w/ this presidential campaign. here's the scene in which Travis introduces himself to Betsy.

Explaining that he drives a taxi at night, Travis clarifies that he really wants to invite her to have coffee and
pie with him. Although amused, intrigued, flattered, and curiously attracted to him, she wants to know why,
not knowing what to make of him. Charming her, he uses one of the oldest pick-up lines he knows. During
the scene, Tom - pretending to be standoff-ish (but actually jealous) - lurks around in the background.
Appearing cool, beautiful and pure, she is taken aback by his feverish interest in her, but nonetheless
accepts to meet him later in the afternoon:
Travis: I'll tell you why. I think you're a lonely person. I drive by this place a lot and I see you
here. I see a lot of people around you. And I see all these phones and all this stuff on your
desk. It means nothing. Then when I came inside and I met you, I saw in your eyes and I saw
the way you carried yourself that you're not a happy person. And I think you need something.
And if you want to call it a friend, you can call it a friend.
Betsy: Are you gonna be my friend?
Travis: Yeah. What do ya say? It's a little hard standing here and asking...Five minutes, that's
all, just outside. Right around here. I'm there to protect ya. (He quickly flexes both arms,
causing her to laugh.) Come on, just take a little break.
Betsy: I have a break at four o'clock and if you're here...
Travis: Four o'clock today?
Betsy: Yes.
Travis: I'll be here.
Betsy: I'm sure you will.
Travis: All right, four p.m.
Betsy: Right.
Travis: Outside in front?
Betsy: Yeah.
Travis: OK. Oh my name is Travis. (He extends his hand to her.) Betsy?
Betsy: Travis.
Travis: Appreciate this Betsy.

24. Just make sure if you go out with him...
You meet in public for awhile first. If he seems okay and you like him, all you can do is give it a try.
