Anyone see "Cinderella Man"? |
|
Wow, I waited and waited, seemed like forever, for Cinderella Man to come out on video. I couldn't wait to see this "uplifting, best movie not only of the year, but best movie ever made"
Yikes, I was only very marginally uplifted. First of all, it was dark (literally) and grimy. I know this was meant to symbolize the darkness of the depression era, but it made it difficult to watch. You wanted to turn some lights on. Secondly, Rene Zellweiger's hair, what were they thinking? It was dyed too dark and was a real distraction. It looked so unnatural, and you know she didn't have the money to dye it back then. Thirdly, her character was ridiculously sickening sweet and totally unlikable. Fourthly, they did not make Russell Crowe very likeable either, to me. And lastly, the way they filmed the fight scenes was really bad. Poorly edited. You couldn't really see who was punching whom most of the time.
The only great part of this movie was Paul Giamata (sp?) from Sideways. He played the boxer's manager and was absolutely brilliant and believable.

I don't know....I thought "Cinderella Man" had a lot of heart. It was just a nice film.
Besides...my boyfriend worked as an extra on "Cinderella Man" when it was filmed in Toronto last summer. He's even seen in several scenes (but they are of the "don't blink" variety.). He got to meet Russell Crowe and Renee Zellwegger. He said it was a nice experience.
