My father is going for eye surgery in the morning
to replace the lens. The original has cataracts. Now he's being grumpier and crankier than usual said my mother. Just got off of the phone with her. (He has not been a caring individual, but that's another story.)

Guess I'll have to be a good son and call him and wish him well. Can't do it with her passing the phone, that'll just make him madder--and that's sad!

3. Thanks
it's hard to do the right thing. Last year when mom spent most of the summer in the hospital, I can understand that there's things that he can't do (73 yrs old, out of shape, type II diabetes, one hip replacement, and he may need the other one replaced) but it's the fact that he wouldn't even try. Didn't even act at all helpful. I'll spare you the long list.

2. I hope your dad's surgery goes well.
:hi: I know what it's like to deal with grumpy relatives. I've got several of them myself. Call your dad and let him know you're thinking of him. You can't change his behavior or moods. However, you'll feel better for having called. :)

6. Thanks. My back's still a bit stiff but on the mend.

My horse, Cotton, got her feet trimmed and filed on Saturday morning. She was a really well-behaved girl!

Happy holidays! :)

edit: My mom had a hysterectomy last Wednesday. She came home on Saturday and did not take any pain medicine on Sunday! Your dad will be glad to have the surgery done and then come home and be grumpy in the comfort of his own house!

5. The surgery will not take long
according to my mother, the whole procedure is about 90 mins at most. They have this down to a science.

7. Cataract surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures
And it's done on an outpatient basis.

My left eye will need it if I live long enough.

9. Don't worry. The surgery will probably be scheduled when I'm 75....
That's quite a few years from now!

If that's the worst medical problem the years bring me, I'll be quite happy.

10. Made the call
he sounded so relieved that I called. I told him that the procedure is very common (thanks, Bridget) and is down to a science. One of the area's best doctors (18 yrs exp.) is working on him and he's in good hands.

12. Success! Surgery is done
and they're heading home. The whole procedure took about 90 mins. He has to wear a big eyepatch. I told him all he needs is a tricorner hat and bandanna and he's a pirate.

Thanks for the good thoughts.

:P

14. He thought it was funny
he asked where to get a big eyepatch. I suggested a medical supply store.

He's wearing bandages right now.

15. I remember as a kid
at sport class I was so "lucky" one time to get hit by a ball right into the eye. Fortunately nothing happened but I had to wear a black eye patch for a week or so just in case. I hated it because I got teased.
But I guess your dad won't have to go through that martyrdom

22. Thanks, but
my dad (sometimes) lives in the real world. He knows what Johnny Depp looks like--but 'preciate the thought.
