Urgent tech help needed
A friend got a new computer and has this problem (Sony VAIO notebook)

She turns it on and it plays music. Doesn't matter what she runs or if she even runs a program. She can't find where to shut it off. Anyone help out there? Pretty please?

1. What is the model number of the VAIO?
Probably a number like VGN-FJ180 or something like that.

Should be to the upper left of the keyboard.

5. Just to clarify
It plays long songs, not just the few notes that play when the VAIO powers up?

2. Have her click on Start - Run. Type in msconfig - Ok. Click on the
the Startup tab. Look for something that plays music like iTunes and unclick it. Click Apply - Ok. Reboot and see what happens.

7. Numbered things. Oh. First thing is to run an Adware/Spyware/Virus
scan.

However, keep Sonic. Can you take a Screenshot of the screen and post it?

9. Type ctrl/alt/delete and see what APPLICATION is running
then just end it. After that, it may be something loading in the start menu. we can chase that if we find what's running first, then look at processes.

12. WE'll find it, when you are sitting idling, NO apps should be showing
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 11:46 PM by DainBramaged
Applications, not the next tab processes. That is trickier to end a process, but not catastrophic if you are careful.

24. Something hidden in processes, like Media player
Rather than go nuts, call their 24 hour help line and ask them how to turn it off. Be relaxed and ask them how to turn off the media player that starts up when you turn on computer. If they act stupid, tell them you don't want to listen to music when your computer starts and maybe they'll figure it out.

Those fucking sleazebags. I'll never buy another Sony product, ever again.

when you discover the water is running it blows up. Or flying cows with flaming farts in space?

Sorry, stream of unconsciousness.
