I've been there. When I was working at the University of Illinois in the 80's, I was informed (along with several hundred people throughout the University) that my position was being eliminated. This was two weeks before Christmas. Great timing, indeed.

Did you get any kind of package to help you out? When I was let go at xmas in 2002, it really WAS the best thing that could have happened in the long run for me. Sucked to holy hell at the time though.

I want to thank everyone who responded. I really appreciate your support. As far as finding a new position, I'm looking and I will probably have something lined up after Christmas. It will just be a while this time of year things are slow.

I was told this is an FAA decision. And the FAA drastically had their funds cut this year so I guess I've been officially BUSHWACKED!

I have some emergency money saved up, thank goodness, and my expenses and debts aren't that bad.

25. You know the weirdest thing was

that I had to upload code to production today and the program manager was in with the lan guy who always lets me in the room and I asked to go into the production room to upload some files in front of the program manager.

I thought that he might instruct the lan guy to watch me or something. It just goes to show how stupid the program manager is that would allow me to do that without taking some precaution. If I were him and that was done by me, I wouldn't trust someone I just laid off. I'm a good person, but it just shows how pathetically stupid he is.
