4. Today we campaigned in the Grove during the UM vs LSU gam in Oxford
We had a nice table with coffee, stickers, bumper stickers, flyers, and a sign up sheet. We got an interesting mix of responses from passers by. A few republicans came up and said that we definitely had balls, even though they didn't agree with us. One Repub. said that Dean was the only Dem that he could stand. Most just walked by with their mouths hanging open, in shock that we were there. We gave out about 45 stickers and I am guessing about 30 of them seriously like Dean and those folks said that they thought that we ruled, were brave, thank you, etc. I have a feeling that the other 15 planned on putting the stickers on some LSU person's tent or automobile. Free advertising is always nice. So thanks, to those drunk mother fuckers. We talked to 3 Dean campaigners from Nashville and one that is affiliated with the Edwards campaign, they loved us. We had about 30 people that felt moved enough to make rude comments while passing by. One said that he wouldn't piss on Dean if he was on fire. One frat daddy walked by and proudly proclaimed that he was a "rich, white conservative." We talked to one guy from Pittsburgh and he proudly proclaimed that "there aren't any fucking republicans there," and how there are no elected reps in office. We had one asshole come up and pretend to be into Dean and then told us of his love for Reagan and Bush. Next time some one pulls this I will gladly say, "Jesus loves liars!" A few asked if we were on the right campus. One drunk guy walked by and said quite seriously that he hated Dean and Dean was "his biggest fucking nightmare." A few assholes said sarcastically that they wished that Dean would get the nom cause he would be easiest to beat. There were a few "Dean sux", these folks are so creative! About 15 people walked by and quietly took flyers and 5 signed up to campaign for Dean. I think that we actually got through to a few folks that may, in fact, look at things a little bit differently from now on.

We smiled so much our faces hurt. We were proud to be doing it. My favorite person of the day had to be the Edwards' campaigner that cussed out one repuke passerby. "Kiss my ass, you stupid piece of shit!" we beamed after that one. Plus the guy was freaking huge, so the repuke just walked on. Our goal was to not be anything like what Fox has prepared them for. We were informed, ready to take on any debate, and having Dean's book handy is nice if you need to tell anyone his position on the issues. Overall things went well and we definitely got noticed. A local reporter covering the Grove party came over and asked us a few questions about Dean and the crowd's reaction. I think that the key to winning the south is going to be killing them with kindness. You can not attack people and expect them to like you or listen to what you have to say. Suck it up and CONTROL your temper. But we also have to be positive, they want drill it into our heads that Bush will win, this is so not true! There are more poor people in this country and we have to get them all.

Other observations I made: Except for the one drunkard that said Dean was his worst nightmare, the rest don't take him seriously at all! Good, let them be arrogant, they won't be prepared for the ass kicking that they will get next year. There were tens of thousands of people and I saw about 20 people that looked poor. All of the cars we saw were luxury cars or new SUVs.

Tomorrow we are writing letters for Dean at a local coffee house.
