NYC-area DUers: how will you handle a MTA strike? |
|
I, for one, don't think there will be a strike.
Thankfully, both the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and the PATH will be running and I can then walk to work from Christopher St.
How will you deal?

8. I take the Path every day |
|
And I'm not looking forward to 193948398293837 extra people trying to get on my train when it hits Christopher Street! I'm 5'2 and am afraid of being absolutely crushed... :scared: I'll be sharpening my elbows tonight for sure, if the strike goes down, lol.

not looking forward to my walk all thw way down and across Manhattan to get to work. I'd take the day off, but I'm considered essential personnel at the hospital.
That said, I'm of course on the side of the union. I just hope they don't have to strike.

6. I work at Bellevue Hospital |
|
in the dept of medicine. It's a city hospital, and the biggest trauma center downtown, so in emergency situations (as it was on 9/11 or during the blackout two years ago, for instance) it's the first line of defense for much of the city.

:-)
And yeah, Bellevue is sort of like a mini-combat zone--it really is an intense and very unique place.

I'm NOT looking forward to walking across one of the bridges -- especially since there's supposed to be an ice storm tomorrow too.

9. Though I can walk from PATH to work, |
|
I am considering getting on the ferry and riding my bike, because I too don't want to be crushed by the brazilian extra people on the train.
However, I think they'll come up with a contract well before the deadline (of course, I can be wrong sometimes).

Maybe some smoking.
I have an inside tip saying that it's pretty definitely going to happen. Of course, those inside tips are only reliable about half the time, so we'll see what happens.

My BF works in midtown (he commutes from queens), and I'll be heading down to NYC after finals. I have a flight out of Newark I need to make and I don't know how I'm going to get from Queens---> port authority if the MTA is still on strike x(

I just need to get to Port Authority-- the NJ Transit buses should be unaffected by the strike.

25. Have you looked into ZipCar? |

It's a service that you can use to rent cars by the hour.
There's a little bit of a refundable (I think) deposit, but the rates are pretty good after that.
They have pick-up and drop off locations all over the city.
Might be worth looking into...
