Some personal thoughts about Mike McArdle (Birdman).....

Quite frankly, I had no idea that he was a prolific writer for the DU home page. Reading his stuff has been a revelation, a real surprise.

Here's why. I'll be honest. He bugged me. It seemed he was always the first to question (and quite frankly, ridicule) whenever a conspiracy thread of mine or Stickdog or Octafish, etc. ran. He would reply, with that Humphrey Bogart image, as if on cue. But he was not the only one.

Now, sadly, he is gone. I was wrong about him. I figured he was just a troll. I wish I had known that he was Mike McArdle. Had I known, my replies to him would have not been so harsh. But I didn't know.

His DU homepage articles, in my mind, contradicted the image I had of him. There must be a lesson in this.


Mike, we hardly knew ye.

A Tribute to Mike McArdle

November 22, 2003.. Yesterday, we received word that a member of the DU family has passed away. Mike McArdle was a prolific writer of articles for the DU homepage. He has been writing for us since the very beginning of DU under his real name, and under the pseudonym "birdman".

I never connected his writings on the front page to his "birdman" personna posts. Goes to prove just how wrong you can be about posters here.

2. I've read a few of his works,

and I liked all of them. I too didn't realize the full scope of his work. RIP, birdman, I'll see you up there.

3. It's because some of you

refuse to believe that, like Mike, one can be a good Democrat and a good liberal without buying into every kooky conspiracy theory around. Mike believed in science and common sense.
