1. Now if the ViQueens run true to form...
They'll blow this big lead they have over Detroit and lose! :-)

7. How many super bowl wins?
How many world championships? We've 12, 4 SB appearances and 3 Lombardi tropheys. We are the class of the NFC North.

8. I'm not going down this route again.
I spent countless hours arguing about this with my brother throughout my whole adolescence. Anything you PackQueer fans conjur up in an argument about which team in this rivalry is better, I've heard about 50,000,000 times before.

(PS: You do NOT have 12 world championships. Seven of those NFL CHAMPIONSHIPS, of which the Vikings have one, were won when the NFL had a dozen teams, back in the days where people cared a LOT more about baseball than football, and when the league wasn't even followed by most of the country.)

I'm not arguing about which team is better, because the fact is that both teams are so evenly matched throughout history that it's not even funny. 42-41-1 in favour of the Vikes.

I'm not going to say that the Vikes are a better team than the Pack, beacuse it's not true. It's also not a true statement to say that when comparing the two teams against each other, the Packers are the better team.

If you want to hear an unbiased, objective version of what I'm saying, pick up the book "Cold Wars: 40 Years of the Packer-Viking Rivalry" by Todd Mishler. His thesis in the book is that both teams are so evenly matched throughout the years, that it's only a statement of fan bias when one side says their team is better than the other.

And by the by, the author is a die-hard Packer fan. He managed to write a perfectly unbiased and objective book on this topic despite being a Packers fan. I NEVER heard of a Packers fan being that way until I read that book.

12. Please make up your mind
first you said we are historically in second place,a completely inaccurate comment. Now you claim to agree we're evenly matched.

Answer the question: how many SB trophies for the Vikes? If we are evenly matched you should have the same amount. When was your last SB appearance? These are oblective facts of history. Hell, even the Bears have more Lombardis than you guys

By the way, by the very definition of being a fan, you cannot be unbiased.

13. OK, I made up my mind:

When I mentioned "2nd place in the division", I was referring to the respective teams' dominance over the other division teams, and how successful they have been in the NFC Central/North. The stats over the past 36 years CLEARLY state that the Vikings have been the best team in the division as far as division play goes. 16 division championships for the Vikes compared to I think 6 by the Pack speaks for itself in terms of historical standing within the division.

Now, when I was ranting about Packers fans saying that they're a better team than the Vikes, I was referring to head-to-head competition between the two teams. In reality, the only way you can measure and find out who is the better team among any two teams is by having to look at how they play against EACH OTHER. Series record: 42-41-1. It's almost DEAD EVEN. If you're trying to compare the Vikes and Pack to each other, you have to look at this record, and conclude that both teams are evenly matched. Again, read the book by Todd Mishler to see what I mean.

The "3 Super Bowl wins" statement by Packer fans is worth about as much to me as the paper towel I just blew my snot in and threw in the garbage can. YOU CAN'T MAKE A CASE USING THE ABOVE CRITERIA BY MAKING THAT ARGUMENT. Contrary to the thinking of most Packer fans, When you try to make an arguement that the Packers are better, this arguement is WORTHLESS. The Vikings weren't the team that lost to the Pack in those Super Bowls. The Vikings usually don't PLAY the teams that the Pack have beaten in SB I, II and XXXI. Which brings an interesting tidbit: The Vikes and Pack have NEVER EVEN PLAYED IN THE PLAYOFFS. You can't make a case for either team (Vikings included) by the historical circumstances stated above.

So in conclusion, when I was implying the Vikings historical dominance in the division, I was referring to the fact that the Vikings have won almost as many division championships in the NFC Central/North as all the other current members of the division PUT TOGETHER.

6. I hope you're being tongue in cheek about that.
Cause I was raised to hate the Pukers. My father is a hardcore Vikes fan, but the sibling rivalry with my younger brother, who is a die-hard Puke fan, added to that ingrained contempt. But when I was living there, he was outnumbered 2-1.:D

9. No, serious of course!
Call them what you want, but it will do nothing to reduce the fact that the Vikings are second-tier, have almost always been second-tier, and remain second-tier.

Not third-tier, though. I reserve that for da bears. Hateful team, them.

I've enver actually understood why the Packer fans and Vikings fans don't get along. MN and WI get along so well as states, and I've actaully never hated the Vikings. Always thought they were a pretty good team overall, and from a decent state.

Unlike da bears. hateful team, them.

10. Second-tier???
Edited on Sun Nov-23-03 05:46 PM by northwest
Yea, 24 playoff appearances, 16 division championships, 3 conference championships and one league championship in the past 36 years makes for one bona-fide second tier team...:eyes:

On edit: Only the Dallas Cowboys have more playoff appearances and division championships through that 36-year period than the Vikes.
