Tolkien reads Tolkien (LOTR gift idea) $25

I heard this on NPR on Friday I think it was. They were talking about a CD of poets reading their poems (Sandberg reading a nonesense poem) and they featured JRR Tolkien reading a poem that Bilbo or something performs on a table at a bar or something and then disappears using the ring (I am obviously not a LOTR fan). I already ordered one for my brother. Daniel Travanti narrates. Not great sound but hey  it's Tolkien reading Tolkien.

This was one of several actual recordings of Tolkien in the 50's I think before any of the books were pubished.

just google jrr tolkien audio and the first link should be the Amazon link.

The J. R. R. Tolkien Audio Collection (Audio Cassette)
by J. R. R. Tolkien, Travanti Daniel J. (Narrator)

1. I bought this about 10 years ago, its very good
Great for the "gotta have everything Tolkien" enthusiest.

It was recorded by Tolkien himself, before the books were ever published. The writing took him a very long time, and a friend encouraged him to record some of his writings so he wouldnt get discouraged. He doesnt read the complete stories, but it is amazing to hear him read Elvish.

2. None of us can remember if my brother already has this
The fac tthat Travanti narrates it makes it hard for me to believe that he doesn't (HUGE hill Street fan). Oh well I have ordered it.

3. It's worth having
But my most treasured Tolkien recording is the unabridged LOTR, read by Bob Inglis. I bought the set off of Ebay and converted them to three MP3 CD's, each over fifteen hours in length, for listening in the car.

It's not a dramatization, like the BBC versions. Just a very talented voice reading every word of the novel, even singing.

4. Ooh! Now I know what LeftyKid can get his Dad for his b'day!
He'd love that as he's a bit of a Tolkien fanatic.

6. He already got him a Christmas present
Of course, the poor man's birthday's the 26th, but I'll try to get it locally before I order it. There's a store around here that just sells audiobooks, I'll call and see if they've got it.
