My parents both have back issues (my Mom, since she was younger than I am now) and I've always worried I'd get them, as well, but I'd been REALLY lucky until this week.

at the store. Nobody will be able to tell in either case. (I'm sure you make wonderful peanut brittle, but there's not a whole lot of space between the worst and the best in the World of Peanut Brittle, is there? Be realistic, and tell me that's not true.)
The rule is: Rest three days, and take painkillers while you do. That includes Adult Beverages. Starting the fourth day, act as if your back had never given you a problem, no matter how much it hurts to do so.
Keep moving. But not until that fourth day. There's no shame in saying "I can't."

Alternate 20 minutes of heat and 20 minutes of ice for a couple of hours.
and definitely take it easy for the rest of the holidays. If you start using it too early, the affected muscles will tire easily and will be weaker and less flexible than usual, possibly making things even worse.

Same story, my husband actually just told me to come read your posts because I had the exact same damn thing happen. Out of nowhere, picking up my kid, almost passing out/throwing up from the pain. Couldn't move on my own for about 12 hours, had to have help to get in/out of bed, etc. I had a slight pinch of the nerve in my lower back. Take it really easy, and see a chiropractor and/or a licensed massage therapist, if you can. I wish you were nearby, 'cause I could recommend a couple really good people for you. :hug: It sucks, but be nice to your back... if you don't, or you don't work on fixing the underlying issue, it can go 'sproing' again, and I agree, very OWWWWW. Hugs to ya, dude. I know, it sucks.

but I've heard horror stories about how much it would hurt to have him work on my back. Plus there's admittedly a bit of a "wierd-out" factor for me, having him that close to my ass.

Yeah, I could see that might be weird, but if he's a professional, it shouldn't be *that* weird. Hrm, weirdness versus $$-factor... I dunno which way I'd go :) Horror stories are bad... I don't think it should hurt that much. FWIW, I saw a chiro for several months, my back was "ok but not great", and I couldn't go too long between visits. I then saw an actual massage therapist who did some deep tissue work on my glutes, especially up around my hips, and after that, I was pain-free for a whole month, at least. A couple more visits, and now I am pain-free except for a couple days a month, when cramps make that whole area hurt, anyway :eyes: I hope that you are able to find something that helps you to feel better, and soon!
