Unusual cat snacks
My cat loves to lap up grated Parmesan cheese. She will literally sit up and beg for it. She also loves plain cake donuts, and she can the open the container herself. How about your kitty?

1. Lately . . .
The Wiley and Excellent Cat Named Ginger has been enjoying deli roast beef. He says it "Tastes like neighbor-cat."

3. My Lilbit doesn't care for beef at all;
she's more of a chicken-eating cat! Does Ginger get you to trim the fat from his roast beef?

He prefers the "extra lean, extra rare" roast beef from the deli. :eyes:

12. That is such a sweet picture! Is that an aluminum tree?
You know, ones from the 60's are selling for hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of dollars. :hi:

13. Nah, I think that tree was made of twisted grapevines.
We don't have it anymore, since Call Me Wesley found this artificial, laser-light Christmas tree last year.

How're you, MrsG? :hi:

2. Spaghetti sauce and chilli are two of the things Sunday Girl loves
but can't have any more because of her medical problems. She can still have ham though. Loves it too.

A couple of weeks ago I, caught Yogi in the pizza box. I was laying on the couch watching television when out of the corner of my eye, I noticed the lid on the box bouncing up and down. I sat up and there he was helping himself...I was upset, but amused. It was kind of funny, but I made him get down anyhow. He got half of the toppings off the slices of pizza that I ate plus some of my aunt's toppings too.

5. My former tomcat, Blue (May he rest in peace)
loved salty snacks, especially potato chips. Other than that he just ate squirrels, rabbits, and mice. (We lived in the country back then.)

this time of year, one of her favorite snacks is silver tinsel garland. She munches on it, then tosses it up later in a hair ball! Do you think she's part of the war on Christmas?

7. current cat will eat bananas....
...and I think that's odd. He also likes peanut butter, crackers cheese and more.

A now-deceased cat was CRAZY about donuts. She would be in your face begging, and if a donut was accessible to her would eat half of it.

loved pimento stuffed green olives and angel food cake (not together.) All I would have to do is say "Cake!" and she would come running from wherever she was in the house!

15. One has developed a taste for Brie...
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 08:11 AM by Bridget Burke
He'll also steal baked goods. And he likes V-8. Plus yogurt, Funyuns, etc.

His main diet is expensive cat food--but he likes the occasional nibble of something new.

Edited to add: The Other Cat is more picky. He'll eat dry cat food, but won't even try the stuff that comes in those little cans or envelopes. Forget human food. (He's the fatter cat, too--although he's HWP.)

16. We had a Siamese who lived to 20, the last 2 years she ate pizza
almost exclusively. We'd keep some cold pizza to warm just for her. She like the sausage and cheese especially.
Now we have a male who loves chili. Always licks the bowls clean.

17. My late cat...
loved plastic. Plastic bags, tinsel at Christmas (naturally, we tried hard to keep him from eating it, but...there's only so much you can do)

He also loved the dried bits from Easy Cheese...

And he had a real thing for the liquid from green olive jars. One day, my dad poured the liquid from an empty jar down the sink, and next thing we knew, the cat was rolling around in the sink! Weird. He had a stronger reaction to that than to catnip.

He also liked Doritos and really, just about anything with cheese flavor.

19. My kittes love tuna!
Especially Raphael. Whenever I start making a tuna sandwich, he can smell it from a mile away. He won't shut up until I give him a bit. Then, of course, I have to give Goldmine a little bit, too. ;)

20. Seamus loves saltine crackers
He will also lick a plastic grocery bag for what seems like an eternity. He will not eat cat treats or any kind of table scrap. He's a little strange, but we love him.

Shelby and Smooshinator like the things I would expect cats to like. Shelby did eat a LARGE amount of margarine when she was small, before I caught her.

22. My black cat has a sweet tooth
He especially loves cheesecake and coffee-flavored ice cream. I won't give him much because I'm afraid it'll hurt his stomach, but he'll practically shove your spoon out of the way to get at a bowl of ice cream.

My parents had a whole zoo of cats with unusual diet fetishes. Noel loved to eat raisins, and once made herself very sick by drinking a whole can of sweetened condensed milk. Nugget loved toast--never untoasted bread, tho'. Frosty would go nuts for miniature marshmallows. And their black cat, Tilly, has made herself fat eating up crickets!

31. I named my rescued kitty Brother Cadfael
because his fur is the same color as Derek Jacobi's and that he never encountered a plant he didn't like. :-) Fresh flowers have become a rarity in my home because I'll come home from work and find his pollen stained face trying to look innocent.

24. my old cat Uilou loved spiders...
I would knock them to the ground with a broom and she would pounce on them. This was the only way she could get them because otherwise they were too fast for her. Here comes the gross part - it seemed like every time a leg would come off and it would twitch on the ground for a while before my kitty would get to it. They were big spiders so it was a good treat. Here's a pic of one of them:

My first cat, a torti, would eat all of the olives that I picked off of my pizza. Bless that kitty for getting rid of those foul things for me!

30. The whole crew has interesting snacking habits
Imhotep and Neutrino both like hot dogs - before they're slathered in mustard.

Caesar likes an occasional dab of cheesecake. Popcorn and saltines are good too.

Evie likes breakfast - 5-grain Cheerios (dry), Kashi's Strawberry Fields (dry), Hot Pockets (sausage and cheese), breakfast bars (raspberry's da bomb), and just about anything else remotely resembling breakfast foods. Oh, and lately she's been trying to cut into my rations of Folger's Mocha Cappucino.

Neutrino and Quark both love deli meats. Corned beef is a favorite.

Socrates and Plato eat anything, which probably explains why they weigh in at a combined 38lbs. No, they're not fat (the vet said so), just huge.

32. Urd likes to lick bows
She thinks every present under the tree is a bow holder just for her sampling. I have to keep a bag of Christmas bows available all year long; she'll nose around in it and pick her bow of the day to take out and lick.

Neo will take bites out of anything in a plastic bag (through the bag), so bread has to be kept in the fridge.

Both of them used to be crazy for popcorn, but not so much lately (maybe I'm not buying their preferred brand). But now they luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuvvvvvv Pepperidge Farm goldfish crackers. It has to go one-for-me, one-for-Urd, one-for-Neo, one-for-me... or they get quite put out.

34. the late great Atlas had a thing for whole wheat bread.
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 09:01 PM by yellowdogintexas
He could mow straight down the center of a loaf of bread in no time flat. I had to start keeping the bread in the refrigerator! He also stole tomatoes from my garden, and would drink tomato juice or V8 whenever offered.

Thomas has a real thing for chicken and turkey, regardless of preparation method but if we bring Popeye's chicken in the house he goes nuts.

I once had a cat that ate asparagus and green beans and would beg for them.

35. Corn husks.
The late great big orange cat Charles (1974-1995) loved corn husks and would beg for them whenever we shucked corn, and he'd gnaw leftover corn off the cobs if we left them on our plates. He also enjoyed green olives, bread (he'd tear up the plastic bag and eat chunks out of the crust) and spider plants.

Edamame. He like it steamed in the pod. He pops the beans out and eats them, and leaves a trail of the pods.

He'll climb me like a tree if I'm holding a bowl of edamame over my head in an attempt to keep him away from it!
