I confess I had never heard of him until seeing him in "The Blues Brothers."
But I'm slowly finding more of his work, like the stuff he did for the "Betty Boop" 1930's cartoons.
And didn't he appear on "The Love Boat" before he died?

One of the first records I ever owned was Cab Calloway's "JUmping Jive." I also have his "best" of CD from the Okeh/Columbia archives series, which I like a lot.

9. Calloway appeared in several Betty Boop cartoons. |
|
But not as himself.
Rather, the Fleischers animated several characters using Calloways's moves, with that character singing in Calloway's voice as well.
A great example of this is "Koko The Clown" in their version of Betty Boop as Snow White, doing "St James Infirmary Blues." It's great.

As I recall, he was also in a Janet Jackson video shortly before he died, wearing a replica of his classic yellow zoot suit.
You might also look into Louis Jordan's stuff from the 40's. Wonderful, wonderful feel-good music.

7. How can anyone dislike Calloway? |

He also was in the movie Cotton Club playing himself.
