3. I always thought it was just one of those meaningless words
the sole purpose of which is to convey contempt and scorn, which it does very well.

12. I've read that it's a bastardised pronounciation of the French
paysan meaning peasant, someone who is crude or ill-bread, a kind of country bumpkin.

9. They're small and yellow, almost the color of piss
They have no sting. But they're everywhere in South Texas. They love sugar and fat. The best way to kill them is to put out a saucer of vegetable oil out in the open. They will crawl over their dead comrades to get to the oil, and drown in it.

Wicked weird buggers.

pis·mire (psmr, pz-)
n.
An ant.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Middle English pissemyre : pisse, urine (from the smell of the formic acid that ants secrete); see piss + mire, ant (probably of Scandinavian origin).

Cp. Greek - Myrmex = ant; Lat. Formica = ant

11. According to my bug man ...
they're the little ants that get into the house and walk around on the countertops. They like sugar, so they'll take a sweet bait back to the nest and kill everyone with it. They don't bite or chew on wood -- they just piss you off!
