2. I'm afraid to admit this |
|
but her version of "Ave Maria" is quite nice. Of course, the gold standard is Karen Carpenter's.

3. I'm with you on that too |

I never liked her style of singing too much. I know alot of people who do, but to me it's too raucous in the way she belts things out.
Ironically, while I was in The West Bank, (through a set of misshaps regarding Gaza and having forgot my passport) I got stuck hanging out alone with one of my Palestinian hosts in his Ramallah office. Luckily I had a good book but he had this Celine Dion CD that he kept playing over and over. He asked me: "Celine Dion- You like"? "She's ok" I said. "I do not undstand you said" he said. It became clear to me that it would be fruitless to explain. It had to be a yes or no. So I made the mistake of saying "yes I like her" (because I do as a person) So he cranks it up a couple more notches. :yoiks:
If I had ANY hope of enjoying her music, some Palestinian guy ruined it for me.
Sorry. I'm the Queen of long boring stories which make one tiny point or two. In this case the point being I dislike Celine Dion's music and I'll never EVER again get stuck in a stifling tiny Ramallah office with a guy who likes her and I can't communicate with.

4. Well she does have a lovely voice |
|
The first time I heard her she was singing at the Olympics. I guess its her music I don't like- I think her voice is awesome.
Sounds like you did the diplomatic thing in Ramallah!

It's always best to be diplomatic in Ramallah. Otherwise, who knows? In all fairness though, the officials I was with, both Israeli and Palestinian treated our group very kindly. Mediterranean hospitality is wonderful!
Sorry about the thread hijack. You can go back to Celine Dion now! :-)
