And FESTIVUS for the rest of us!!!

I so happily played Gottesdienst tonight, joining in solidarity with the Catholics for their pomp and circumferencial pageantry. It was GREAT! We played the completely obscure baroque "Missa Nativitatis Domini" composed by Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745). The conductor/organist/choral director let it ALL hang out as he improvised the intros for the hymns and sung liturgical responses. The substitutions he played for "O Come All Ye Faithful" had my head SPINNING. First verse, normal. Second verse I could improvise on, THIRD VERSE... We in the orchestra just looked at each other with big eyes and dropped jaws, mouthing, "HOLY SHIT!!! FAR. FUCKING. OUT."

The interpretive displays managed to convey the intensity of the disaster, I thought. Eyewitness accounts, photos... very hardcore, both geologically and from a human standpoint.
