I'm feeling sick and home alone in bed. Tonight you're my family.
And a fine family you are too.

The nicest thing about DU is that I can express my peculiar brand of grumpy optimism and only a few of you tell me that I'm insane. Even better is that there are folks like Rev. Cheesehead and Redstone that have real optimism available for the rest of us. You folks are highly amusing and educational and I dearly wish I could transport a bunch of you over for Sunday dinners.

Anyway, thanks in advance, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Sweet Solstice to all.

5. Thanks, I worked in an office full of sick folks all week.
I got some good work done and pushed through some projects at the last minute. This is good because I'm the guy who gets a plumber to your rental when the hot water quits. It's just my turn now.

I've been more alone in a crowded room. Thanks.

7. I just got over a two week cold, which I got from working early voting.
Working in a crowd will get you sick, take care.

3. See? I told you that you're never alone because you're a DUer.
Neither am I, but that's just the schizophrenia...

Is not!

Yes it is, now you shut up and let me talk to my friends, would you?

How come YOU always get to do all the talking, huh??? What about MY needs?

Sorry, Porcupine, I gotta go take care of someone, I mean something...

Redstone

4. Thanks.
Well, it just started raining here. So we (my two cats and I) are comfortably snuggled, listening to the radio and being on the internet. I hope you get to feeling well.
This afternoon I went on a bike ride. I was greeted by three young cats who were trotting along the side of the road. I stopped and two of them were brave enough to slowly come up to me. When all was decided to be well, one of them laid down in the road and just made himself comfortable right there.

That's about all from Oregon.

And don't worry about me. Tomorrow is just another day, like any other. I avoid the whole mandated Christmas thing. Too much worry and hassle. It suits me just fine to watch from the sidelines.

I could use a big fat Kitty about now though. Hmm. It's time to consider getting a cat. I like big ol american tabbys.

8. Wish you were over here
I would have taken you under my wing, made you some soup and included you in the festivities to whatever degree you wished. My mother is Irish so we decorate the tree and light the Yule log on Christmas Eve (tonight) which is a fun time.

And tomorrow promises at least 2 freeper brothers-in-laws and one mother (mine) upon which to practice loud DU arguments PLUS an excellent Christmas dinner with all of the trimmings.

Take heart that you aren't alone. Tomorrow I will be carrying your torch of "grumpy optimism" into the fray and thinking of you.

Get well soon.

11. Irish soups? Beef barley, split pea or potato?
soup sounds good. Maybe I can turn one of my emergency cans of soup into something edible.

Actually my families coming up tomorrow and I see my kids then. It's just sad to not have them with me tonight all noisy and fussy and covered with flour and icing.

9. Thanks so much
Can I be your dysfunctional cousin?

Other then my animals and sleeping SO (He has to get up at 3:45 for work) Other then them, I'm all alone and I miss my daughter desperately. She's on college break but found a job in Boston for that time period. I MIGHT see her for a day or two between Christmas and New Years. I don't blame her. She needs the money and can get paid 19/hr as opposed to the 8 or 9/hr she'd get here... doing some crappy job. Down there she can earn 19 just by sitting and looking pretty (which she does very well btw) And since she's staying with her bf's family so she's clearing all that money.

So that's my sad tale....... And along comes Debbie Downer!!!!!

10. I'm without family, as well, this Christmas, though I'm very fortunate.
And as long as DU remains up, I know that I'm never without friends.:-)

And I had terrible flu last month, so you genuinely have my sympathies. And thank you for your kind wishes. I wish the same to you, and hope that you're feeling much better by tomorrow. Have a peaceful and restful holiday and know that DU is always here, whenever you need a friend, or a family.

12. I'm so sorry you're sick.
I think it's especially miserable during the holidays, when the rest of the world tries to convince us that we're basically happy consumers, ready to share the love of capitalism. Bah, humbug.

Bah, flu-bug, for that matter.

Look at it this way: You've found a great community in DU, you've found the joy of the Lounge, and you know we're here to make you laugh and feel just a tad better.

If you have cable, might I suggest a good dose of "The Christmas Story"?
It's on TBS for, oh, the next 22 hours or so. HO-HO-HO.

 feel better soon!

17. I'm sorry you are sick for the holidays.
Why should you be anymore sane than I am?
We wouldn't have nearly as much fun if we weren't crazy.

Where would we all be without our DU family? Much less sane, I'm sure...

Have a wonderful day!:D
