I can't believe how busy it was at work today! |
|
The grocery store I work in was open today, for the first christmas since I've been there (7 years). I opted to work - figured I could get some stuff done and catch up (I run the wine and liquor and my shelves were wiped out) and besides, we get paid triple time on holidays. Thought it would be a nice quiet day, with maybe some people picking up a few items they really needed.
There were people shopping. Grocery shopping - full carts. They were buying tons of wine and booze and our parking lot was full from the time we opened (8 am - we were supposed to open at 9 but they were pounding on the doors at 8) till the time I left. I couldn't believe it. Do none of these people have lives? Families? I know if I didn't have to work, I sure as hell wouldn't have left the house.
It was very strange and I'm happy to be home. Merry christmas....

2. you do not really get triple time |
|
You just get double time plus the paid holiday. Probably still pretty good money. You could stay at home, though, and get single time.
I am sure they have families, that is why they needed all that food. Probably forgot some things or knew in advance that the store would be open and planned to pick up groceries when things were quieter. Or they might have drunk all their booze last night and wanted more.

Quibbling over details. It amounts to triple what I usually make, at any rate.
I didn't mind working - actually, I enjoy working on christmas for some reason and I realized today that I've probably worked more christmases than not because I've so often worked with animals who need to get fed and taken care of no matter what the day. It just surprised me how many people were out and about.

4. Yeah, I'm sure they have jobs |

and had a difficult time getting all of the shopping done before Christmas day. I know I was working right up until the last minute Friday and they probably would have liked us to work Saturday too.
