3. I always manage to forget somebody worthwhile, don't I? |
|
OK. On edit, I added Carl Perkins and removed Paul Burlison (of Johnny Burnette's Rock & Roll Trio). Nothing against Paul, mind you, but I think most folks are more familiar with Carl's name! :-)

5. I tried to vote for Carl but it said I'd already voted! |
|
so chalk one vote up for Mr. Carl Perkins. The list is pretty good one; you only get so many spaces. Paul Burlison is bad! Link Wray is extra bad! Bo Diddley is a bad mutha. I could have voted for about 4 or 5 of them. They're not my favorites, but Cliff Gallup and James Burton are two others that could legitimately make the list.

4. I think I'm going to have to declare Chet Atkins a rock&roller |
|
although I won't vote "Other" until I get an official ruling.

6. I thought about including Chet Atkins... |
|
...but didn't want to start a flame war over whether Atkins was country or rock 'n' roll.
Whatever the case, ol' Chet was one hell of a musician, wasn't he?

A true innovator. Effects, multi-tracking, he was the pioneer. All rock guitarists owe a debt of gratitude to him.

even though he is a sick fuck in real life, his music is immortal. Riding around in my Automobile, Roll Over Beethoven, Johnny B. Goode---these are songs that set the standard for all rock guitar that came afterword. Music would be very different without Berry.

|

Well, in my case, it was the hairline, but that's another story. :P

but I had to go with Chuck Berry. When Keith Richards was starting out, he studied Berry and copied many of his riffs.
