24. Hey, that's my house! Does it have a red brick chimney? |
|
And brown shingles?
Next summer, we're going to have it painted grey with white trim, so we'll be able to tell 'em apart!

20. "Baby-Couldn't-Help-It" Brown |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-25-03 01:09 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
About 1980 or so, my grandmother (3rdGen) strong-armed her daughter (my mom, 4thGen) into having the place sided. The contractor, a turd burgler if ever there was one, sided it with CHEAP, tan-brown aluminum siding. Not even decent vinyl siding -- aluminum. Ah, I've owned the place since mom died in 1994 and the family's lived here since 1961. In that time, the house has been pink, charcoal grey, OD green, lilac and, now, Baby-Couldn't-Help-It Brown. Maybe I'll finally paint it next spring. Or maybe I won't. I don't know. John The house was built in 1877. It has nine-foot ceilings and oak woodwork and floors downstairs. Only two families have ever owned it -- the Wylies' (1877-1951) and us (since then). Gram bought it from the youngest Wylie son, who was going to tear it down to make room for a parking lot, and had it moved one block west to its present site. She rented it out for eight years or so, then sold it to mom and dad.

... but I'll bet that first-time visitors never have a problem finding your house once you've explained to them EXACTLY which one to look for.

21. Typical suburban tan/beige color siding & Trim |
|
But we spiced it up by painting the front door a totally loud 1950's Aqua blue, with a matching mailbox and poodle address plaque on the light out front.
Definitely grabs your attention now!

26. Red brick, with red metal awnings over the porch and windows. |
|
All the houses in the neighborhood are the same basic house, so the differences are in porches, awnings and trim.
