I may as well go ahead and have my panic attack
now and get it over with.

I'm going home to visit my folks Thursday morning and taking my three rangy kids along. My mother thinks they're little angels and there's absolutely nothing wrong with them that a little conservatism won't fix. She's conveniently ignoring the fact that:

  • one's a teenager with a chip on her shoulder the size of a house
  • one has sensory integration issues, social issues and learning problems
  • one has just been accepted into a special program to diagnose why he chucks stuff at teachers, beats up his sisters (who are twice his size) and can't sit still for 10 seconds at a time (unless he's on his meds)
  • all four of us have the organization skills of a budgie

She's also fanatical about teeth. One kid (at least) needs braces (which I can't afford) and I'm missing 2 1/2 front teeth (bad dentistry, can't afford to get them fixed and lack organizational skills to make appointment).

Last trip out she blew a 20 minute tantrum because my water glass was 3 inches away from where it was supposed to be. With my brood, I have enough trouble getting them to use utensils, never mind figuring out which one's the salad fork.

She keeps proclaiming "everything will be fine - don't worry".

All I can say is "you've been warned".

*groans*

4. I'll be right behind you; I can feel my eye twitching already.
Fundy in-laws that enable mentally ill son. Fundy missionary BIL and wife who are coming in for prolonged visit with newly adopted 9 mo old, who they are already starting to spank when she misbehaves....
I've thought about going drunk so that nothing bothers me, but I've got to be alert to protect my kids. I've grown to dislike holidays. :nuke:

5. my ride just disappeared
We were supposed to get a ride to the airport.

Just found out the ride's vehicle blew a ball joint and is in the shop. She recommended a company that does pickup and delivery to the airport. Just phoned it and got some guy on a cell phone in heavy traffic. Apparently he only charges $40. The regular Airporter will be closer to $100 for four people.

8. Mescaline
Might as well - sounds like your week can't get any more surreal. Why not throw in a few psychotropic substances and go for the full-scale freak-out?
