1. Myopic?
I had glasses from age 8 to age 39, and then had LASIK.

Luckily, since you are an adult no one will call you "four-eyes" all the time.

69. Hey, that's cool. LASIK ain't for everybody.
and you're right, it doesn't correct presbyopia. At some point, I will have to resort to reading glasses as I get older. Even so, I have absolutely no regrets about doing it. Having clear vision, without wearing corrective lenses, has been a huge, transformative gift in my life.

I need enhancements in both eyes, and will be doing so before March.

70. When did you do your LASIK?
I'm coming up on my 7 yr anniversary of my LASIK surgery, this coming March, in fact.

I love being able to go camping w/out all the hassle of contacts and glasses. There are many, many benefits. In my opinion, the benefits definitely outweigh the risks.

71. I did mine in July 2003.
I was profoundly myopic, with astigmatism so bad that I was at the far end of what could be corrected.

I was not too far from Windsor, Ontario, so I went there. No regrets at all.

From 5:30 to 7:00, DFA will join with Drinking Liberally for a social hour and silent auction.

I got my $700 glasses and eye exams for about $320, after the AAA discount.

Not bad for a $40 a year membership. PLUS, AAA will tow me free whenever I need it!

And if you are a national chain kind of place, ask about if they have discounts for members of clubs/organizations. Some union members get discounts, there's AAA, also AARP, sometimes even the NRA. The lady at the store asked me about a few organizations before she mentioned AAA, but I can't remember what any of them were.

64. Pearl - my kid has worn glasses since he was 4
He is 22 now. When he was about 6, his glasses broke and the optometrist sent us to Pearl to get them fixed. They were not insured and the optometrist was trying to save me some money getting them repaired. The technician at Pearl broke the temple off and the frames were ruined. She apologized and told me to come back the next day when the manager was there and she would leave her a note telling her she broke the frames and Pearl should replace them.

So next day, I walk in the store and the manager says "Oh, you are the one my FIRED technician told me about." Not only did she refuse to replace the frames, she yelled at me and told me to get out of her store and quit causing her problems.

So I got on the phone and called every other Pearl Vision store in town until I found a manager who knew this bitch and had a bone to pick with her. She took the lenses out of the broken frames and gave us a new pair of frames. And she gave me contact info for the regional and national offices of Pearl.

I wrote a scathing letter, threatening to complain to my state attorney general. Bitch got fired.

After that, I always paid extra for the insurance on his glasses.

I haven't been back to Pearl since. I figure my Karma there has got to be pretty bad. :scared:

Edited on Tue Jan-03-06 10:59 PM by Rabrrrrrr
I'd always had just one pair at a time, and last year, after I broke my frame from a pair a couple years old, I bought THREE new pair! One really nice (and *#@(&% expensive) dress pair, one cheap (but nice looking) Sears $100-on-sale pair for home in case I fall asleep wearing them, and one pair with magnetic sunshades that I keep in the car.

Must be a class of '84 thing to finally get multiples on their 21st year out of the gulag.
