I went to my first NHL game last night!

Saw the Dallas Stars at the downtown AA Arena. I had a Row B ticket drop into my lap-- a $120 seat for free!

I've been to hockey matches before, but never anything at the NHL level, and never at such a fantastic arena. Man, was it a hoot! Second row, just off to the side of the goal! Watched more than a bit of close-up action-- one stray slapshot actually starred the plexiglas protective shielding behind the goal!

Oh, yeah, it was against the Coyotes (Phoenix?? Don't recall). The Stars won, 5 - 2.

Once in a lifetime, man. Bet it'll never happen to me again!

I don't like the Stars, but it's good they whooped up on the "Arizona Screaming Weasels". Everytime I hear that Phoenix team mentioned, I start getting all misty-eyed.:-(

The Stars have been on a losing streak lately - you saw the first win in a while! I've been to a Stars/Yotes game before. I love to go when I *loathe* the other team!

8. Hockey is the Best Spectator Sport!

Footbal used to be billed as a mixture of speed, precision, and violence. Hockey trumps it in all three -- speed skating, puck handling and shooting, and the hits and body checks are a step up from any other sport.

I used to go to minor league hockey games in New Haven, CT long ago -- it was a cheap night out and, not having a car, I could walk. I used to follow the Washington Capitals pretty closely when they were doing better.

A front-row NHL seat is a thrill.
