That's not to say she and I don't have our differences and our arguments. But get this:
At Christmas she started making gift boxes for disadvantaged kids. But she didn't stop.
She said: Children don't just need things at Christmas!
She's giving boxes of toys and also practical things. I said, she should give children's books too. She said: but what if they don't speak or read English? So we compromised, although it was her idea, and she's giving hard bound lined blank books as well. "So they can write their own stories or thoughts or whatever."
So it wasn't just a guilt assuaging Xmas thing for her.
I said: That's putting your Christianity where your mouth is. She said: A Christian is known by their acts. I said.: Jesus said, What you do to the least of these you do to me. She said: That's right.
Just a shout out to my mom and a hope that she might inspire others to do the same.
Khash.
(She also said that the only thing she she regrets about this is that she won't be there to see their excitement as they open the gifts.)

She's the kind of Christian I aspire to be. Acting, not spewing and judging.

2. What a great and touching story!! |
|
Sounds like she has a heart of gold and has been a great teacher for your volunteer work, as well.
I am always very moved, as a mother of a son myself, to hear men acknowledge their mothers. I find it very uplifting and inspirational.
We must teach our children well and she has clearly done her job with you. :loveya:
Let's hear it for the Mothers of the World!!

"Children learn what they live and live what they learn". In fact, she painted it on my bedroom wall when I was a kid.
Truer words.....

10. This bit of wisdom is on our refridg door: |
|
Children Learn What They Live
If a child lives with criticism, He learns to condemn. If a child lives with hostility, He learns to fight. If a child lives with ridicule, He learns to be shy. If a child lives with shame, He learns to feel guilty. If a child lives with tolerance, He learns to be patient. If a child lives with encouragement, He learns to appreciate If a child lives with fairness, He learns justice. If a child lives with security, He learns to have faith. If a child lives with approval, He learns to like himself. If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, He learns to find love in the world.
Wise words, indeed. Author unknown.... :hi:

She tries not to let her "judgemental morality" impair her ability to do the right thing.
Although she finds homosexuality morally wrong, when I got all political about it she supported me. Publicly. And received death threats for it.
A friend of mine hit hard times. She was living with a man (immoral) and working for an escort agency (but not as a prostitute - still, immoral).. But when my mom realized she was having a hard time even buying groceries..... she took her to the store, let her get what she needed, and then paid for it.
Not too damn bad, huh?
