Kucinich folks, please don't take offense. But WTF is with this?
I'm a Unitarian. I hang out with the whole grain bread, NPR, and birkenstocks crowd a lot. In general I find them good people. But honestly, they've got to get a clue about stuff like this. It's just too damn silly to put on a website for a presidential candidate

Here's an actual transcript:

Grandfather Twighlight: Children are dying from bombs and guns. The moon sees all of this. But she also sees something else. It is like a dream. Such a good dream, I could hardly believe it at first.

Barbara Helen Berger (author of the GT books): Tell me!

GT: There is a brave, truth-telling man from Ohio. His name is Dennis Kucinich, a Congressman who is running for President. As you know, I tend to be a calm old man, but when I heard Dennis speak, I got excited. He plans to create a Department of Peace. At last! Why has no one done it before? This is exactly how a wise President should think, what a good President should do! (GT thumped a gentle fist on the table.)

See? Even the little furry animals will vote for Dennis.

Oh, lordy.

12. a major children's book author
Edited on Wed Nov-26-03 01:05 AM by ZombyWoof
I used to sell hundreds of Grandfather Twilight books when I worked at B&N some years ago. Basically what this picture is, is a personalized endorsement illustrated by the author of those books. It would be no different if Berke Breathed was to endorse him, and drew Opus holding a sign. Now, the drawing style might not be everybody's cup of java (not my style either), but what this comes down to is a major children's book author endorsing Dennis. That's all. Is it hokey? To us. But it appeals to the parents out there who like buying these for their kids.

Hmmm...

You asked what if Berke Breathed endorsed Kooch and drew an Opus holding up a Dennish sign. But there's a big difference. Opus and Bloom County are cool. Best Grandfather Twighlight's gonna do is lock up the 6 year old vote for Kucinich.

Kucinich on Electronic Voting

From a Letter to Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Sensenbrenner and Ranking Member Conyers requesting that the Committee hold a hearing to investigate abuses of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) by Diebold Inc., one of the nation's largest electronic voting machine manufacturers. (Diebold has waged an intimidation campaign to repress circulation of employee e-mails that raise concerns about the security of its electronic voting machines):

"There is a compelling argument that the fair use doctrine precludes copyright liability for posting the e-mails. The archive is predominantly factual and was reproduced to inform the national public debate on election reform, specifically, on the machines used to count our votes. The e-mails do not harm any market of Diebold's, except in the sense that admitted problems may cause municipal and state purchasers to subject the machines to greater scrutiny.

"Furthermore, numerous letters were sent to ISPs whose users only hyperlinked to other sites where the Diebold employee e-mails were posted. Hyperlinks do not qualify for copyright protection, and their use does not incur copyright liability. In cases where ISPs complied with requests, they have often shut down entire websites for weeks at a time, instead of removing the alleged infringing activity. The safe-harbor driven 10-business-day takedown period can remove non-infringing websites during a critical interval of discussion.

"Diebold's actions abuse the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, using copyright to suppress speech rather than fulfill the Constitution's purpose for copyright, to 'promote progress.' These abuses raise a fundamental conflict with the First Amendment, diminishing the Internet's tremendous value as a most free medium of expression. Diebold's actions are representative of a growing body of abuses through which large and powerful parties unfairly intimidate ISPs to remove information those parties do not like. In other examples, the claims are not really about copyright, but about not showing the parties in a negative light, or not allowing consumers to compare prices, or quieting religious critics. Powerful parties should not be permitted to misuse copyright as a tool for limiting bad press and barring access to legitimate consumer information."

I am amazed every day about all the important issues that Dennis has a great deal of knowledge about, and he is not afraid to speak out about them.

He is so far ahead of any of the other candidates on his solutions for fixing America that they should all just defer to his superb qualifications and drop out of the race now and let him go for it.

You know, I've got a BFA in illustration, I've illustrated children's books, I've helped design characters for major motion pictures aimed at the children's market, and there's no way I would use one of my G-rated creations to do such a thing to any candidate I cared about! I've respected mrs. Berger's work for years, but this is just plain inappropriate. Though I'm all for teaching children good liberal values, I rather doubt it's aimed at children and is far too cutsy to be used in any political campaign. In fact, I feel it does more harm than good by contributing to that 'yippy hippy" none-too-serious image some people on the right feel that we deserve. I hope Dennis removes it from his site. :-(

If this ever becomes a book, it will become a collector's item.

What a lot of us are missing is that there is a revolution happening right under our noses.

Glossly corporate-produced marketing gimmicks are on their way out as real people rebel against all that junk.

Ah... And what's worse here is the hypocrisy. Had Dean received such an endorsement, there would be ahs and oohs of admiration but none of the other candidates could receive such an endorsement because they are not really for the people and of the people the way Kucinich is.

Even if Kucinich doesn't win, he represents a Revolution happening right under our noses- it's too bad some people are missing it but I am not surprised. Notice that none of the real DU leftists are in this thread knocking it. The same people knocking it the loudest are the same ones who either defended, or are still defending, the DLC the loudest- marshmallow Democrats who swing whichever way the wind blows.

Rise up is the message and it's being heard loud and clear in the streets by the same people who have been taking their kids to antiwar marches for over a year. The revolution will either happen quietly and in a spiritual manner too many in this thread have shown they don't have the depth to appreciate or in a violent manner. Nader was right- it will really have to get worse before it can get better. It's bad enough right now but too many people are still falling for the illusion that "same ole, same ole Democrats" offer anything different than what the Republicans are offering. A few larger crumbs that's all... It is nice that many internauts haven't been hungry long enough to need more than crumbs but what we're missing is that an impressive number of Americans need more than crumbs because they've been hungry so much longer.

I weep for my country when I foresee what's going to be happening. I weep when I think that many of us will be wringing our hands in a few years when our intelligence allows us to look back on these years and realize how we missed the opportunity to choose good over evil. I hope that doesn't happen but in order to ward it off, decent people like Will Pitt who were moved by Dennis must put their brain in sync with their heart and start using their words to give real support to the only candidate out there who has really understood what's taking place in this world and has a plan to ease us into the gentle transition that good-hearted Americans deserve.

There is another way and many of us are teaching the children that there is a better way than what the corporate media tries to sell us, that there are better men in the system who are belittled and marginalized because they represent what the people want and not what the corporations like.

You go Dennis! Keep trying to lead America to a new place so that the revolution doesn't become bloody.

If this becomes a published book, I will be ordering 2 copies for each child I love- one for them to read and one autographed copy to save as a momento of the epoch in which the spiritual & populist revolution began in this country.

It's sad to see so many fellow DUers, self-proclaimed Liberals, missing it but I am not surprised at the names of the people I am seeing mocking this since I don't recognize those as people who ever got out in the streets and raised their fists saying no.

Rock on Dennis. The Revolution is with you even if many of my fellow real street activists consider you part of the system we are rising up against.

You are either with the revolution or you are not... and sadly too many of us at DU are too comfortably ensconced in yuppie internaut life-styles to even realize what's going on in the streets of the world.

No, no, you may not like my words but I am nothing more than a messenger telling you that the people will not go gently into the night. They are raging against the machine and the rage is too real to be assuaged by the fast talking slick car salesmen that internauts are falling for.

When: MONDAY, AUGUST 20th @ 12:00 p.m (NOON)
Where: 12400 Wilshire Blvd. 4 blocks west of Bundy.

On July the 20th activist Carlo Giuliani was murdered by Italian police who fired two gunshots into his head during the protests against the G 8 summit in Genova. On July the 21st the Diaz public school, which gave shelter to activists, was also been stormed by police forces.

The activists who were in it at that time, some of them asleep, were brutaly beaten and seriously injured. Some nearly died and a lot of them will have to deal with the physical and mental damage that this act of terror did to them for the rest of their lives. In the police stations arrested people have been systematically tortured by the cops. In the days after the summit, the police continues their hunt for activists and arbitrarily arrests people. There have been over 500 arrests, over 40 activists are still in jail in Italy. This is the present climax of repression against the new global anti capitalist movement in the western hemisphere.
Activists are gathering at Italian embassies all over the world to protest the police killing of Carlo Giuliani, the brutal police repression, and against the policies of the G8.

Rally in front of the Italian Consulate in Los Angeles to protest the murdering of our brother Carlo Giuliani by the fascist world capitalist forces, and to show solidarity with all G8 protesters, and the movement against corporate globalization.

The western "democracies" are no exception; they employ means of police terror, when those in power face effective resistance. Yet their repression only shows that they do not act in the interest of people, but in the interest of securing the current (oppressive) state of the world. We must seize this opportunity to rise up and restore democracy by continuously setting a world time and date for a World-Wide General Strike. We will take no more! Our comrade Carlo will not be forgotten! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Let this be an international day of action in solidarity with our fallen comrades in G8, and to express outrage against corporate globalization!
