15 hours in the grinder, and I wiped out the company books
Edited on Wed Nov-26-03 01:28 AM by Hardhead
I built ads from 8 this morning until 4 pm, then built a 32-page paper and sent it to the press. After about 14 hours of INTENSE brain-drain and utter chaos, the boss asked me to remove the excess 40 copies of the backup of the company books from over the last year. He had some in this folder, and some in that, and in my zomby state, I learned to my dismay that a folder I had just deleted contained the original data file. I set back his yearly quest to balance the books by a week.

Data recovery software will cost $100. (Tech Tool Pro for a pitiful Mac 2500 on 8.1) The boss was pretty good about it. He knew I was wiped out. And I am. There is no describing the mental hangover that comes from a full day of brain strain during a deadline. I feel like shit.

Ah, but this nice cold beer is somewhat efficacious. Perhaps I shall recover...

4. Here's a good Mac one

Working way into the wee hours of the night on a day-long project, burnt to the bone, saving along the way like a good scout.

2 AM I go to save, and by accident (with the same finger) hit apple-X just before I hit apple-S, the result being I wiped the file I was working on then saved it that way.

Gone.

5. I've done that on PC

Control-A (select all)
Control-x (cut)
Control-S (save)
Usually I intend to copy rather than cut, and then the finger slips and it's all over. (You'll notice the a, s, x and c are adjoining keys on a qwerty. It's a conspiracy on both platforms. Someday I'll get around to learning Dvorak.)

6. Why don't you just re-alias the keys?
AFAIK, you can do that in (most versions of) Windows, so you could make Save as Ctrl+; or something easy but weird that hasn't already been used. That way you won't have to spend (another) 10 years learning to touch-type fluently. (I know, that would be the easy way out, right? ;-) )

They deserved it for asking you to do one more thing after a work day like the one you described.
