your marriage? Because the fundies keep saying that it will destroy the institution of marriage. Well, will it destroy your marriage?

Please feel free to marry who makes you happy?
I have not heard one argument by the wingers that holds any water. It always comes down to some esoteric notion they have about morals or religion. I did have fun watching my neighbors head spin one night trying to answer this question without coming across as the bigoted fuck he is.

Their wives and marry their boyfriends? That's the only reason I can think of.

I'm not married, so I guess I don't really belong in here.

6. Honestly
Wouldn't bother me at all.

With that being said, I believe that the LEGAL definition for hetero/homosexual partnerships in this country should be CIVIL UNION. Marriage should be some religious ceremony with no legal standing.

If we are all use civil unions as the legal definition, then we are all equal. It takes religion out of our government.

That's my opinion.

7. I'd like to hear a fundie answer this question
Because that's all I've heard them say - that it will destroy the institution but they never tell you how. I don't understand how two people marrying has any affect on any other people's marriage, whether they're hetero or gay. I would think, if there were any logic at work here (which is a pipe dream) that they'd be relieved there were so many gays and lesbians who DO want to marry - after all, they also seem to hold the opinion that there is some sort of evil "homosexual agenda" and that all gays are sexual deviants who can't keep their hands off innocent heterosexuals (especially the young ones). :puke:

9. If Gay Marriage is made legal
It means someday perhaps I would get the opportunity to walk my beautiful wife (Who will be my ex one day soon) down the aisle and give her away in marriage, as she has no one else to do so and has asked me if I would consider it one day.

It would be an amazing honor to do so and I can't think of a better gift to give her.

As one of our congressman has said the only people who have been affected was a couple that lived next door to a couple that got married had to buy them a wedding present. :)

Oh, and we still have a lower divorce rate than most of the red states. :P

17. If gays are allowed to get married, my wife and I are getting divorced!
I mean, that'll be IT! After all, how can we go on, living a marriage in a world that let's gay people get married? That will absolutely RUIN my marriage, and it'll be all THEIR FAULT! Just like the gays broke up Elizabeth Taylor's 50 Brazillion marriages, and broke up Britney Spears and her 55-hour hubby, and all divorce lawyers are gays who want to see the institution of marriage destroyed and.....

Well, what do you think? It's idiotic that Americans should not receive equal treatment under the law.

America will be a better place when gay marriage is legalized.

18. Speaking as a married man in MA where gay marriage is already legal
I can say without reservation that the only effect it has had on me is to give me the warm fuzzies whenever I see or hear about a gay couple getting married because it just goes to show that while people may have differences the one constant is love and the expression of that love through a ceremony of commitment is a beautiful thing. My wife agrees.

All I could do to resist the impulse of turning gay, divorcing my wife and marrying a man was to vote YES to ban it. :sarcasm:

28. We'd probably get invited to a lot of weddings
at our welcoming Unitarian Universalist church.

This would result in our eating lots of tasty wedding food, and putting on weight.

Eventually we would become so bloated that we wouldn't be able to recognize one another.

So yes... it could possibly affect us.

29. since it IS legal in MA, i'm qualified to answer
what has changed?

let's see....

MY marriage, since the passing of this law, somehow feels....well...not so special anymore. I mean Mrs Matcom is great and all but as of late I have had the urge to scream out "OH CHUCK" during climax. Really can't explain the reasons for it but its there. Luckily I have caught myself before blurting this out but can't promise it won't happen in the future.

I'm also feeling a little jilted because all of the brides in this state are now MUCH better dressed than I am. While I have never actually BEEN a "bride" it is now technically possible and I yearn for the experience. I have always heard that brides have all the fun and now I also see that they mostly wear high-end leather loafers and carry "man-bags". I have always wanted a man-bag and now really want to be a bride.

I am also considering membership in MBTLA (Man Box Turtle Love Association) and since there are membership dues involved, this could put a crimp in our household finances.

It's been hell I tell you living as a married heterosexual in MA. HELL!

32. Not at all. none. zero. nada. bupkis
There's one marriage to which I devote my attention - mine.
There's one sex life to which I devote my attention - mine.
There's one bank account to which I devote my attention - mine.
There's one "religion" to which I devote my attention - mine.

Attention fundies: see a pattern?

I can't for the life of me figure out where people have such free time, that they can worry about the marriages/sex lives/visitation rights of people they will never, ever meet. And the notion that gays are more responsible for divorce than, say, Hooters or internet porn is so absurd as to be laughable.

One thing I will say, though; "traditional" marriage, as is currently sold in America, is something that should be destroyed. This current model supposes the following: The husband is to be aloof, uncaring, and stooopid. The wife is to be shrill, shallow and frigid. The children are to be whiny little beasts. And, my favorite, you must try to spend as little time as possible in an institution you have agreed to keep together until you cease drawing breath on this mortal coil. That's right. Make sure you have ample (and I mean ample) time apart from the one you want to be with. Lot's of guys/gals nights out! Separate vacations! Can't get too close to the one you're gonna be with forever, ya know?

My wife and I don't understand this at all. Of course, we actually love each other and like to spend time with each other, so we're not really qualified to answer about "traditional" marriage.

36. Of course not.
That's just silly.

But DENYING people the right to marry the partner of their choice makes it very difficult for me to explain to my son why some people are recognized as having human rights and others are not. It's pretty embarrassing, really, to describe the hypocrisy that exists in this great "free" nation to a seven year old. But I hope he'll grow to follow the example I try to set, and help the country evolve from its ignorant state.
