"Choose a mentor. That is, choose someone whom you admire. Someone you look up to. This can be someone you know. Someone you read about. Someone you know via media. Anyone. But choose….someone.
What is it, about this person, that makes him/her special? That makes this person, worthy of your admiration? Be specific about this. Unpack, unfurl for your reader, what it is you see about this person. Make your conversation come alive. Choose specific examples, cases, that “boom” show your reader, this person in action. And the perspective and thinking behind this action.
End with: why this rings so strongly, for you. Why you want to be like this…."
I don't even know who to write about. No one in life has had so much effect on me that I want to live my life exactly like them. Sure, many people have done many things for me, but it is the sum total of their efforts, along with mine, that has made me who I am. What would you do if asked to write about something like this? NOTE: this is due tomorrow at 1:30 PM.

1. Then you should pick the most average person you can find |
|
and turn her/him into a legend with your words. If no one has stuck with you make someone unstickable stick. It will get ya thinking.

3. If you can pull it off then I'd be willing to bet, with a bit of insider |

knowledge, that you might knock the instructor's socks off. They'll be expecting another "I wanna be like Mike" or my daddy essay.

He’s the latest superhero with powers so profound. He can leap a dotted line in just a single bound. I know you must have seen him in books and magazines. He’s the quintessential mindless modern epicine. His life is meaningful because he gets things done. Bang bang he’s dead, chalk up another triumph for our hero, The automatic man. It’s true you must have met him, he’s your best friend and your foe. His opinions are determined by the status quo. A true creature of habit, he smokes three packs a day. When he has an original thought, he forgets it right away. He’s a paradigm of carefree living. He’s our mentor, disturb him if you can. He’s the answer if your peace of mind is lacking. He’s our savior, he is the common man. So if you are troubled by the daily bump and grind, Then take a careful look around and brother you will find... The automatic man.

you can score big points by making a left-handed case. Demonstrate that the most influential people to you are those that aren't mindless automatons by...lauding the the brain dead numbskull Joe Six Pack!
Thats where I was going with the BR reference
EDIT: the other perfect point of reference for this theme that springs to my mind is from Dirk Gently's Holisitc Detective Agency: The Electric Monk
There is soooooooo much to work with there
EDIT #2: This is only good advice to take if you don't mind flaming out. I pretty much "challeneged the parameters" on every college essay I ever submitted and sometimes they worked but sometimes they were blah or didn't come across. Also, make sure you know your professor's tolerance for profanity, that got me into trouble more than I'd care to admit

7. If you haven't already started |

maybe you could pick some major historic figure--Buddha, Henry VIII, Leonardo DaVinci, Queen Isabella of Spain, or someone else who was at a pivotal point in history, making choices that caused him or her to change the course of a whole way of life.

10. Oh, so NOW you're working on your paper, eh? |
|
 are you officially "procrastinating" yet?
Seriously, good luck. This sounds like kind of a cool assignment, imo. You've got free range to be as creative as you'd like.
Have fun with it! :hi:
