For it really is all too plain: G.W. Bush is one of the most reviled and openly disrespected major world leaders in modern history. America has never been so embarrassed and reluctant to send a president abroad. We cringe when the man takes the stage. We offer humiliated apologies to our former allies, and to the 200,000 Bush/war protesters in London, just last week.

In Bush's defense, it cannot be easy to be so undeservedly powerful, yet so bumbling and inarticulate and globally loathed for your abhorrent policies and hollow corporate agenda and baffled doofus manner. This Thanksgiving, be grateful you are not him.

For what Will does, he deserves this fame. I hadn't seen this before now, so I'm happy it got posted again. For someone to put Will in the same company as David Attenborough, Joseph Campbell, and Gore Vidal...well, I am genuinely impressed, and I think Will deserves this praise. And I don't see any reason for the snide comments. We all do what we can, and Will's efforts should not be an affront to you or anyone.

If I randomly walked down the street and asked people passing by whether they knew who he was, very few--if any at all--would know who he is, what books he writes, and what he does.

Just something to keep in mind. Outside of DU I know of very few people who know--or even care--who Will Pitt is.

I don't write this post with any intent of malice, but let's be honest. Will Pitt is hardly the "celebrity" that people on this board make him out to be.

So one of the many working for one of the many newswires has mentioned you.

I have had half page articles in papers mention and interview me with the other half of the pages with my photo's. Its no biggie. If that is where one's ego must get its moments, more's the pity.


You have a tendency to be rude and abusive to many people.


The one about slapping somones mother with your genitalia was just one example.

The other day you made posted a "DU story in pictures" that was simply cruel.

You then come back and apologize, but go right back to doing the same things again in other posts. And when you have to face the heat from your posts, you demand they be locked or deleted.

And for all the "big deals" posted here--many of you are the same ones who chose to jump down the throats of anyone who didn't offer certain other posters unconditional acceptance and love. How's about you lighten the hell up and let Will have his atta boy, or do you choose to hold to a double standard?

I will say this about Will: when he first came to DU, I thought he was a blustering jackass (and, though I love him, he still can be on occasion ;-) ). As someone who used to work in the world of journalism, I had little patience for somebody who shot his mouth off and self-promoted to that extent. But you know what? Will hustled, and Will produced, and I now have nothing but respect for the guy. He's worked his ASS off, and I happily give him props.

This REALLY bugs you, doesn't it? Yeah, Will gets a lot of strokes here, but they're earned. From the way you go on, though, it sounds as if the Lounge is all Will, all the time--and it isn't. And if anybody else on DU works their ass off to the extent he has and writes till their fingers bleed and manages to publish a couple of pretty decent books all at the same time, then I'll give them the same praise.

I'll say it one more time: he's earned it.

Look...almost every morning I get this e-mail from Morford called The Morning Fix and today he talked about some of the things he was thankful for (how appropriate, I thought) and one of the writers he liked was Will Pitt and so I thought I'd share it with you.
Read the whole goddam article. It ain't all Will Pitt and I'm not a Will Pitt "stroker", which sounds lewd and obscene anyway <blush>. I like him OK, but I'm not Will's best bud or a member of his fan club.

I thought the "Morford loves Pitt" subject line was juvenile enough to be cutesy, like something Tom would carve about Becky on the old sycamore tree. Sheesh. Screw this. Maybe I won't try cutesy anymore. Whatever.

If it's been posted here before, I missed it. So sue me. Hit alert and call in the Mod Squad.
