Frying turkey? Be careful: "Then everything caught fire and exploded" |
|
http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/News/CCC76B01E601AA9D86256DEA0014D965?OpenDocument&Headline=Time+to+fry+again+—+but+do+it+safely++ "The oil boiled over, and it sounded like a cannon," said Tena Hart, 47, who lives next door from the house with the fire on Sharlane. "By the time I looked out my front door, the flames were 15 feet over the roof of his garage. Then everything caught fire and exploded. His lawn mower. Then his car. Gas cans. It was sort of surreal."

6. They're actually quite yummy. |
|
Frying seals in the flavor, and you can even do it in low-fat oil if you like, I believe.
You just have to be sure to not, Not, NOT overfill the fryer or you WILL burn something. Outdoor use ONLY, please; and as far away from flammables as you can get.

4. First rule : Do NOT use a frozen turkey!! |
|
Ice + hot grease = explosive mess. And a turkey might well be a 20 lb block of solid ice. Even if you think that things defrosted, the inside could still be solid. Buy a fresh turkey if you're frying it. And don't overfill the oil levels :dunce:
These things are propane heated and hot oil overflowing onto an open blue flame ain't gonna be pretty :scared:
