4. I just never could stand those nasty candied fruits.... |
|
...that people put into fruitcake. The cake part itself isn't so bad but then you bite into one of those freaky candied fruit pieces and...BLEGH!

their dried fruits - sweet, tart, color, etc. - let them all sit in a jar with some rum or brandy for a while. Then use those in your fruitcake, with more booze of whatever sort added. Wrap the whole thing in cheesecloth, pour more brandy over it, wrap in foil, & let it be for a month or two. Then slice & enjoy. With a glass of brandy, & maybe coffee with a shot of whiskey in it. Fruitcake is so not about nasty little candied orange peels.

3. There's An "ICEBOX FRUITCAKE" Recipe That My Granny Used to Make... |
|
... it's made from crushed vanilla wafers, shredded coconut, raisins, walnuts, Karo syrup, butter (if I recall correctly)... maybe there's some brown sugar mixed in...
I've forgotten all the ingredients. But it was DELICIOUS! Always served cold.
Does anyone know this concoction? Do you have the recipe?
